Description I am slowly, but securely, starting to experiment more with panels and their placements. Shapes will probably follow soon. After that I am unsure what other aspect of panels there's left to improve, so I guess the development will stagnate after that point. But nevermind such details!

There are few things in PokΓ©mon that are so obviously skewed yet strangely accepted by society as the pre-switch before facing the next pokΓ©mon in battle. I don't know, maybe the opponents shout what they're planning next and our hero simply happens to act fast. It would thus be irresponsible not to take advantage of the situation. Or at least that's what I tell myself when I pound a Youngster's Pidgey with my significantly heavier Graveler. Nonetheless, no other character has apparently picked up on this nefarious tactic, hence why I alone can peacefully reap the rewards. Go me.

Vanessa aka helped out by also bringing up how Revives are used by opponents (or rather, how they're NOT used). I've had the setting and dialogue for this strip somewhat clear for a long time, but it lacked a good finishing panel as the main issue is revealed early on, so Vanessa's input made for a real good ending. This also called for some excessive panelwork which quickly broke my usual 4-panel limit, but I wasn't emotionally attached to it anyway.

Took some time before I got done with this thing. My sudden and intense addiction to Cave Story did little to encourage my production. Fun and insanely frustrated times were had though!

Coming from the guy who let Red to choose first so he could get his starter's weakness.

Reminds me of a battle I had once, my opponent kept using super potions and revives. Would've REALLY pissed me off if he hadn't been such a pushover. As if such a cheap tactic could prevent the inevitable.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BummerForShort In reply to CLProper [2013-02-24 21:21:58 +0000 UTC]

It's about 'Switch mode', which can only be used during the game's story mode (and not in Battle Tower or against other players). Type advantage is perfectly sensible, but getting a free switch before sending out his next mon is a completely different thing.

To be fair, Blue doesn't have to go through half a dozen other trainers in order to fight the player.

XavierXF [2012-12-15 23:15:31 +0000 UTC]

Even though we can use items and switch Pokemon more freely, there's one thing we can't do that literally every other Pokemon Trainer can: Heal all their Pokemon completely, even PP, outside of battle without the use of a Pokemon Center. I think that's a reasonably fair trade.

Mountainlord92 [2012-11-04 14:25:21 +0000 UTC]

This is why I preferred it in the older games where if you do switch to your pokemon between opponents it does at least let them send theirs out before yours is switched, it makes more sense for you to actually see your opponent to know what to switch to, is the player psychic or something?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

JuMiKu [2012-10-09 08:58:38 +0000 UTC]

And that is why all trainers in the world attack the player on sight. To troll him right back. Or have you ever seen them react to each other and start battles?

Hiker: There he is! Kill him! Kill him!

Gary: So, I see you just came out of a cave? Let's battle a-hole.

Only players can get to troll NPC trainers like yourself.

I have to make an objection here. Using revives and switching before your opponent is considered legit in this particular situation because the hero ALWAYS wins through any way possible. It's a not a Pokemon thing, it's a universal fiction/game law.

Osmariobro [2012-08-17 04:17:18 +0000 UTC]

kkkkk Shift Mode for the win, XDD
i prefer to play in SET because that's a bit harder, but worse than NPCs not being able to switch like players do, and not using Revives.... is in HGSS where they DO see legendary pokΓ©mon following the player, and even so they boldly send out their lv10 caterpies to face them! XDD

happyametuer [2012-07-14 04:52:04 +0000 UTC]

And now opponents use Full Restores and switch. Then in Nuzlockes, the playing field is evened a bit more with revives being forbidden (1 faint = a kill).

But the switch thing is always there. ALWAYS.

Interesting to know that even most of the veterans of PokΓ©mon never heard of the Set Mode - press start, go to options, set battle style to "SET" and then you will no longer be able to switch when the opponent brings in a PokΓ©mon after his last one was beaten.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

CleverPast In reply to LightningLord3 [2012-06-24 14:59:19 +0000 UTC]

Dunno if that's true; they should've gone through the Options at least once. Plus, link battles and the metagame are played in SET battle style. I sure don't use it anymore. Makes the game too easy.

I DO wanna see how Revives for the opponent come into play, though. I imagine people ragequitting after the Champion used Max Revive on her best Pokemon they brought down one turn ago. xD

DragonSideStudios In reply to LightningLord3 [2012-06-23 18:49:42 +0000 UTC]

Anyone who's played FireRed or LeafGreen should be aware of it, the game is default set to 'set', I wasn't aware you could switch like that until I got a different game, I think it was the same in Ruby/Sapphire.
