Description
I am slowly, but securely, starting to experiment more with panels and their placements. Shapes will probably follow soon. After that I am unsure what other aspect of panels there's left to improve, so I guess the development will stagnate after that point. But nevermind such details! There are few things in PokΓ©mon that are so obviously skewed yet strangely accepted by society as the pre-switch before facing the next pokΓ©mon in battle. I don't know, maybe the opponents shout what they're planning next and our hero simply happens to act fast. It would thus be irresponsible not to take advantage of the situation. Or at least that's what I tell myself when I pound a Youngster's Pidgey with my significantly heavier Graveler. Nonetheless, no other character has apparently picked up on this nefarious tactic, hence why I alone can peacefully reap the rewards. Go me.
Vanessa aka helped out by also bringing up how Revives are used by opponents (or rather, how they're NOT used). I've had the setting and dialogue for this strip somewhat clear for a long time, but it lacked a good finishing panel as the main issue is revealed early on, so Vanessa's input made for a real good ending. This also called for some excessive panelwork which quickly broke my usual 4-panel limit, but I wasn't emotionally attached to it anyway.
Took some time before I got done with this thing. My sudden and intense addiction to Cave Story did little to encourage my production. Fun and insanely frustrated times were had though!

No worries, Gary : in Nuzlocke Challenges, Revives are forbidden !

Lol that's a very good point. I'm glad opponents can't use Revives though, imagine having to take down the Elite Four like that if you're already severely under-leveled.
Also, I like the new layout

One of the thing I find most akward is the fact that you can battle against toddlers and then take their money anyway.
But yeah, I think there sould be a "hard mode" in these games in which you don't know which pokemon your opponents are going to send.

you can turn off the option to change as the opponent are sending in another pokemon.

I know that option. But in the other case, you would be switch anyway but you don't know what is going to send (For example, your pokemon is weak, so you change before they send the next one, but you would not know if your choice is good or not)

Several times. Beat Boss Attack mode today, which is probably the last achievement I'll earn. I started a Hard Mode run, but the first battle against the Core is one fight I cannot get across.

I've always thought the player's advantages over NPCs were kinda sketchy, too. I feel the same way about switching out and using items in competative battling, actually. I can't stand when someone switches out on practically every turn just so they don't get hit by a type advantage.

Lyra-Elante In reply to Violyte64 [2012-06-13 02:43:24 +0000 UTC]
Well, the fact that certain moves that are almost certain to fail if you use them (such as Horn Drill or Guillotine) are more likely to work if an opponent uses them, then I think it's a fair trade-off. Seriously, EVERYTIME my opponent has had a Pokemon with an instant K-O attack, he's killed me with it. I've only succeeded with an instant K-O attack THREE times in the whole history of the games. I'm talking all the way back to Red and Blue. Those stupid computers get too many advantages as it is so you deserve some as well.

Violyte64 In reply to Lyra-Elante [2012-06-13 04:40:59 +0000 UTC]
Actually, that's entirely coincidence. The AI has no advantages over the player as far as moves being improved, or anything like that. So, no, it's still unfair.

They don't use revives because they don't have any - they also never carry more than four items even. Also, you can counter-switch immediately upon KOing your opponent's PokΓ©mon only against NPCs as they move and react much slower than the players or the Battle Frontier participants (that's why you can't do it against either).

I suppose the NPCs don't use Revives due to the fact that battles will never end.
... Then again, it would make the whole VS seeker redundant if everyone carried revives... DAMMIT, STOP MAKING ME THINK THIS OUT LOGICALLY! D8

Yeah, ive always wondered why they made it like that. Knowing what theyre going to bring out makes it A LOT easier to brutally rape them. They should remove that and make it not show so it stays a surprise like how it is on WiFi battles. It would make the game far harder and make it a better experience

Using them mid-battle is kinda cruel to the pokemon. It kinda sticks to the games in story message that you're supposed to treat your pokemon respectfully. No clue why the teams forgo the tactic, however.

π: 0 β©: 1
DCHorror In reply to The-Letter-W [2012-06-15 21:12:00 +0000 UTC]
You're not preventing them from fainting. They are still fainting, and by using a Revive, you're setting it up so that they might faint again so soon after having fainted.
It's like waking someone up just so you can knock them out.

I guess you could argue that with all items though; healing just to get hurt again. -w-

Personally, I tend not to heal during battle anyways for that reason. I'll give my pokemon held items, but only use potions and revives outside of battle. The exceptions being freeze, burn, and poison. Pokemon tend to bring out my nicer side.

DCHorror In reply to The-Letter-W [2012-07-12 05:12:58 +0000 UTC]
I'm pretty sure all the npcs use PPUPs. I tested it in a magikarp vs magikarp battle. Talk about frayed nerves.
Under normal circumstances, I just can't do a team like that, though. I'm too much of a speeder.

FFFF I always think stuff like this XD. Haha, I've also battle with other people before-- mostly my little brother-- and it's funny because we just switch back and forth trying to beat each other with type advantage and never get to attacking unless we have other pokemon that have attacks that would still be effective against their advantage lololol.

Totally nailed that one. If I remember right, there is an option to disable mid-battle switching. Then again, I wonder why would anyone want to turn that one off in the normal game....
Nevertheless it is kinda hilarious how we get all those advantages against the NPCs, no?
