Description Because it looks like a lot of people on here think that if they have photoshop, SAI, or w/e, it magically make them good at art

It doesn't

template : [link]

---
[edit] So, by talent, I meant ability to draw. The word I should've used was skill, an ability you gain over time with hard work, but W/E, you get the message. Bottom line= that stuff won't magically make you a good artist.

"This looks crappy because all I have is MSpaint"

It's not BECAUSE all you have is MSpaint. It's because you suck

Um no. People can practice with blood, sweat, and tears for years, and still not be good enough. Art is a talent.

It takes a lot of time and effort to do anything. Even if you can get BETTER with a program, you still have to have talent. This is the message you're conveying, amirite?

Right, theres also the need to learn the program if you want to use it,

Agreed! I wish people would take the time to better themselves artistically and NOT use digital art programs as an excuse not to, or to blame them for their own crappy art. That statement "This looks crappy because all I have is MSpaint" especially bothers me because it makes it look as if ALL art done on MSPaint is shitty, or that anyone who uses it is stupid. I used to use it like crazy when I was little and I've just got reacquainted with using it now in my early 20s, and I've been working my ass off to improve my art, with and without a program. I even have a friend here who draws with MSPaint really well, even better than me XD I myself still don't understand all the functions of PhotoShop yet, but I'm definitely learning.

i started drawing with just a pencil and a sketch pad when i was a kid. upgrading to a higher level of art will take time and perseverance. the bottom line is... it's not about what medium you are using. it's about how you use your medium^_^

Before artist comments I thought the stamp meant 'anti-digital art'

I actually never saw people blaming their programs for their crappy drawings. I'm a happy person, then. It's quite silly, I think, thinking Photoshop, SAI and Gimp will turn you into a drawing genius I even must admit, digital works are a little harder (or that might be me), as you don't 'feel' the drawing well enough. o_0

"This looks crappy because all I have is MSpaint" may be I should download MS Paint and show those fellas you can draw in it no matter what? o_0

I know it doesn't make me a good artist once I get it. I know that I have to practice hard on those programs. I have Sketchbook to practice with, Adobe PS to learn about light and shadow, Corel Painter to learn about painting, and Sai for some other things. Still learning how to draw and learning about the programs too. Also taking art lessons too.

Pythosart [2011-12-10 07:32:17 +0000 UTC]

Ah, but over time, those tools really do help one grow as an artist. Photoshop has opened my eyes to light and shadow, and I'd likely never have seen them the way I do were it not for digital media.

I understand what you mean, of course. It's just something to ponder.

I have a tablet and Photoshop, but I still acknowledge that there are better artists with just Paint and a mouse.

ToxicRuby [2011-09-20 19:31:44 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. You may have a a nice program, but it has nothing to do with talent. Anyone can pick up photoshop but it takes someone with skill and talent to make something of it.

OptimisticRebel [2011-04-05 13:42:37 +0000 UTC]

I use photoshop, because I prefer it, not because it makes my drawings any better.

As for a tablet, it does improve drawing, but only to the level that you could draw at to begin with.
Mice were not designed to draw, they were designed for clicking, and I find they degrade your ability.
Tablets use a pen, so you will only draw as well with a tablet as you can with pencil and paper.

InkBottleInc [2011-03-07 22:22:49 +0000 UTC]

Hey, someone had to say it right?

But whatever. People who think like this (those that feel that talent can be BOUGHT OUT OF THE BOX rather than gained through hard work) can live in their own world of logic.

I agree. I wouldn't mind trying the high tech stuff but I love to be able to hold it in my hand or hang it on my wall... Plus I don't have to rely on any computer not to crash or programming to fail. I love pencils!

Nobody comented on this or my computer isn't working well?
Anyways, I totally agree, I have a pen tablet but I don't use it much often (I actually suck at digital art), I prefer using traditional media and scanning it, but I think I just nedd to keep practicing.

I do the opposite, I suck at digital art and that's why pen tablets and programs like Photoshop are not my favourite tools.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

MizuTorrent [2010-06-19 09:44:52 +0000 UTC]

Well, they may not mean everything, but a good resource for an artist is one of the biggest reasons why they're able to develop their skill

I know I wouldn't be much better off if I hadn't learned how to use expensive supplies, because while they may be well...expensive, and not a huge demonstration of what makes an artist good, they still helped me learn technical skills that are invaluable.

So, nah, the program doesn't make the talent. But it provides knowledge, and with that knowledge can be growth.
(that's not to say that you can't just use MSpaint also; we all start and sometimes stay somewhere lol)

using this stamp btw. >w>

Like apparently everyone else, I agree with this! I got Adobe Photoshop only because my uncle gave it to me, and I only use it because I gave all of my colored pencils to my sister Personally, I think fancy things like Photoshop make the work seem a bit les personal. Just a bit.

THAT'S SO TRUE. I have Photoshop Elements 6 which will only last for about 26 more days, but I realized it kind of sucked drawing with it(and it kinda looked worse with it). So I just draw simple things with MS Paint, and...(like always at school, I always had the urge to draw and then the urge to use the computer at home.)

Buneary In reply to Random-Blues [2009-03-03 05:36:14 +0000 UTC]

You can use a pen tool for photoshop, but I like the curve tool in paint better. It's more mindless.

PrehistoricPlague [2009-01-19 07:40:06 +0000 UTC]

I love all mediums and types of art, even from those programs = D

Lets face it, if you are good at art in the first place, then you are good. Regardless of what program or medium you use.

But if you're willling to learn it, those will show off your computer art well = ) It's just based on your willingness to practice and get good with all medium.

TRUTHZ.

Cause I had bought a tablet so I could do some little doodles while sitting at my computer or I wouldn't have to fail with a mouse whenever someone invited me to go iScribble with them.

But never did I use it to make me popular or make it look like I'm better at art than I really am.

So you are a genius.

Props for you.
