I just want to say that your Spiderman figure looks awesome in its pose and design. Just out of curiosity, did you use 3mm stems or 6mm stems?

Thanks!
I used 3mm(it's in one of my comments below. I really should add that to the description above...)

Your Green Arrow and Batman statues are impressive. Do you by any chance know where I can find 3mm grey stems? I am currently working on a few projects of my own and I have a hard time finding 6mm grey, let alone 3mm grey.

Thanks for the Faves on those two statues.
I really don't know where to find grey either; there are but a few stores in my area that have pipe cleaners, and if they do, the colour selections are limited and usually in assorted multi-packs, which is getting really annoying. If I want 1000 emerald green, for example, I am forced to buy 100 packages of assorted colours, just to extract the 10 sticks of the colour I want... !
Ok, my rant is done...
If I locate a good source of pipe cleaners, I will certainly let everybody know. Meanwhile, check this site out : craftsuppliesforless.com/kidsc… They can't help me because they don't ship to Canada. I hope they can help you.

Thanks!
And Thanks for the Fave!
I think I would have to commit Hari Kari if I didn't get the fingers right...*searches for something sharp*
I made his hands strong enough so that he actually balances on either hand [link]

Thanks!
Spidey is only around 5 inches high in the crouched position(I used the 3mm wide pipe cleaners, so he may seem bigger in your mind if you are used to seeing the 'standard' 6mm wide ones - In that case, he would probably be around 15 inches if he were in the upright position...)

Including the inking, how long did this take you? It's very well crafted.

Spidey is one of my friend's favourite characters, so I made sure he was done right (not like I would rush any of my creations...pshaw!)
I don't actually keep track of time when I make them, I 'zone out'...probably 15-18 hours, before the inking.
I am working on Wonder Woman for the same friend; o.k., so I started awhile ago and will finish, eventually...

The angle of the shot works really well. I still can't believe that you can make this kind of quality art from pipe cleaners.

The lighting was just right for this picture - most of the time I have to take 10 or fifteen pictures to get a decent shot, especially if I use the fuzzier pipe cleaners; The camera doesn't know what to focus on (that's it, blame the camera )

I imagine that can be quite difficult, especially when they camera finds the silliest thing to focus on.

I wanted to leave an advanced critique, but don't have the right kind of membership. Sorry.
Anyway, I envy how smooth and uniform he looks, but I have mixed feelings about the ink. First, I'm a purist about pipe cleaner creations and for myself cannot use any medium besides pipe cleaners (personal opinion, feel free to ignore it). Second, the ink is really hard to see and before I read that it was webbing, I thought it was some imperfection in the red part. Maybe it would work better if it was darker, like it is around his eyes.
That said, how did you get the line between red and blue so even? I can never seem to manage that. Also, how tall is he?

BurndogDesign In reply to Anabiyeni [2009-05-16 18:21:30 +0000 UTC]
I, too, am a purist when it comes to pipe cleaners. However, due to the small scale of most of the things we do, sometimes you just gotta use other items to achieve the details and the proper look.
Don't be too hard on yourself - otherwise, you will drive yourself crazy and it will just hold you back.
I don't feel guilty anymore if I am forced to use a bit of ink for a project now because I know that I can do the majority of the creating with only pipe cleaners. I keep improving on my technique as I progress.
If I had enough pipe cleaners, I would have made Spiderman much larger and then he would have been entirely pipe cleaners, including the webbing on his costume, but I can't make them all life-sized...or can I...?...one of these days I just may...
Regarding getting the line between the red and the blue so even: planning. Much planning and head scratching...colour separation is difficult.
If he were upright, he would stand around 8" tall, I think. I forgot to measure him. So that would put him around the 4.5" or 5" mark in the crouched position.
Thanks for the comments!
