Correct me if I'm wrong, but judging by the distance I'm going to go out on a limb and say it's the first date? Just a detail that caught my eye. I do love the angle of the shot, Instead of facing the camera they are looking out into the vast world. Thinking of all the possibilities. I also like what she's wearing, it's stylish, which leads me to think she likes whomever she's meeting. And finally the man is carrying the bag, Which I want to believe belongs to the woman, Showing us that chivalry isn't dead, well at least in Japan.

Thank you for your critique! I like the little details you noticed about their body language and so on that weave a little story for the scene. I think this is why people seem to like this photo. It has a narrative quality that comes across well. Thanks!

The conceptual contrast between the old and the new is captivating, the impression is further enhanced by the atmosphere of the shot. Those skyscrapers truly form an excellent background for such a scene. An excellent shot!

As someone who just recently arrived from Japan, I found that to be awesome. Truly awesome. It has feelings and shows the traditional still alive on the modern city, like almost everything I saw in Japan.Β

If I'd have to rate it I'd give it a 9.9 though, that 0.1 is just my OCD tingling on that camera on the right side of the shot.

Ah I see someone noticed the little GoPro on the right. Yeah I didn't see that when I took but it is an odd detail.

Anyway, I'm glad you like the photo and it captures what you felt while visiting here.

Nah, not too cliche. Perfect example here of that singularly Japanese fusion of old and new. Traditional clothes, modern city, young people...
Can't think of any other place where the juxtaposition makes as much sense. Lederhosen lad and Pauli girl overlooking a Berlin cityscape = not the same.

Love stuff like this. Like seeing kids take wedding pics in Yoyogi Park, dressed in their traditional finest, with bright neon punk-ass hair like final fantasy characters.Β

I like your image of the German equivalent of this scene. Very funny!

You raise a good point that not every culture pulls off the tradition/modernity contrast so well.

Thank you very much for enjoying the photo!

This is not a clichΓ©, this is how it really is. This is so impressive, seeing people dressed up traditional in a very modern country.

Love the contrast of the traditional attire with the super modern skyline. I guess this sort of sums up how well Japan does the old vs new contrast!
