I really like this photo and your other photo of Japan and your night photography. I've always liked candided photography. Also, I think your photos looks really clear and colors really pop out. Usually my white balance is off and I can't always get the true colors to come out. Also, your photos give me more of a reason to move to Japan.

Thank you!! For white balance, I highly recommend shooting in RAW and fine tuning the WB in post. I adjust the white balance on every single photo I edit. I never leave it up to the camera.

Still a favourite shot. I'm saving up for a visit to Japan Everything looks so expensive.

It can be quite pricey but it's not too bad. Lots of cheap fast food to be found and you can do couch surfing or Airbnb to save money.

Very nice shot! But im always asking myself if its ok to bring our shot of unknow persons deviant art without "rights".

Thank you! Your Japanese is much better than mine! I can read it but only with the help of a dictionary. Anyway, in answer to your question... I have no definitive answer. I don't know if it's okay or not. I do not ask and most people are not even aware they are photographed, much less that their photos are shown. However, I feel that I don't portray people in any compromising situations (usually) and I'm not photographing anything you couldn't have seen in a public place had you been standing where I was standing at that moment in time and space. Essentially, you can experience my experience vicariously through these photographs. If you feel this is wrong, then it may be wrong. But I certainly feel there is a moral ambiguity in what I do.

thepixelworks In reply to burningmonk [2015-04-01 15:15:09 +0000 UTC]

The only thing I can say is, that in most countries I've been do (in Europe and the American continent), the general rule is that if you're in a public space, you can't really do or say anyting against it. The photography obtains the rights to the photo the moment the picture is taken. In a private residence it's different, but a public space is 'free for all'. Some people don't like it, and if I get asked I respect it, but I don't necessarily have to. I'm not sure about how this is handled in Japan, but I would be surprised if it were different.

And yes, it's a great picture!

burningmonk In reply to thepixelworks [2015-04-03 01:03:57 +0000 UTC]

The Japanese rule is a bit more nuanced. Even if you're in public you may be breaching someone's privacy. But this only the case if the photo reveals something that could be considered private, which is extremely rare. In this photo, and most of my photos, I don't feel I'm invading anyone's privacy since I'm showing what can be seen by anyone walking down the street.

And I'm glad you like the photo!

thepixelworks In reply to burningmonk [2015-04-07 16:45:37 +0000 UTC]

I do, and yes, you're right. Also, that's a little vague; how is anyone supposed to know what is private and what isn't without knowing the person, or their particular circumstance at the time?

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

burningmonk In reply to thepixelworks [2015-04-08 03:00:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I think the point is that you don't know when it's invasive so you shouldn't do it at all, but I believe I don't do anything immoral in most cases. I feel that overall I bring more good than evil into the universe with my craft so I continue on.

thepixelworks In reply to burningmonk [2015-05-10 21:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, absolutely. Plus your work is quality, so anyone captured, even if they find themselves online eventually, is most likely going to be flattered!

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. The pictures you post are flattering and respectful. It's not like she's up on a billboard. Having said that I feel really self conscious taking pictures of others for some reason.

burningmonk In reply to Salemik [2014-08-11 02:15:02 +0000 UTC]

Thank you very much! I feel self conscious too. The only way to get over that is to keep shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting!

Again, another photo that feels like a shot for an ad. I really like this shot - feels like clothing ad, or maybe something as corporate as a train ad.

Keep it up.
