Description
Found this guy on accident while outside in my water logged front yard. The yard itself feels like a huge sponge from all the rain that we've gotten and continue to get. Anyways I spotted this locusts shell in the grass and then I started looking and found this locust near by. This is a fairly young one and I hardly ever see them this short after they break out of that shell. I was surprised when it flew off the first time but I went and picked it back up for more pictures. There's a reflection of the sky in its eye.Related content

I have the same Camera. I've been trying to get a good shot, but they all turn out bad.
Any Advice?

I don't really know what to say. I practiced a lot and got really used to the macro setting on that camera. I had to learn how to be real steady with my hands. I took something from when I used to be in competition shooting (with guns) and that was that I would take a deep breath and breathe out and then take the picture. After it was taken I would let out that breath.

thats great in terms of sharpness, how did you make this with an L6?! did you use a stative or was it free hand?

Well the bug itself is bigger than a grasshopper and it was a nice bright and sunny day out. The Sun does wonders for an L6. And it was free hand. I took a bunch of shots as well because it was windy out and I had to try multiple times for just one shot.

Your locust captures are excellent. Can't decide which one I like best.

I had to ask some friends which one I wanted to put in the contest I entered this one in because I couldn't decide if I liked this shot or the mustache shot better.

Beautiful photo. I love how the eye just stands out so well, and the reflection can actually be seen.
Good job!

Yeah, I was surprised when I could see the reflection. I didn't realize it at first until I got the picture on my computer.

I was really trying to get a wing shot but none of them really came out. It was a really cool looking oil color. It kind of comes out in these pictures but it's really something that I think needs to be seen in person.

Nice picture. ^_^
I saw a shell on a post yesterday, but I didn't think of looking around for it... I did stare at the shell for a few seconds, though. It looked alive when I looked at the face... it was interesting.
Well, really nice. You must have a good camera. (mine broke awhile ago and I haven't bought a new one yet... >_>

It's just a Nikon CoolPix L6. It's pretty nifty for the price but it's not dslr or anything. And it was really sunny out which is when the camera does the best.
