Description A step by step how to do traced bases
Or how those art thefts think they should be made.. :S

---

Something asbeelshadow sent me to email..
Long story short..some dude sent this stamp and allowed to submit, since she was very busy(because of what happen..sad story inc.).. she asked me to post it.

She also gave me her account info,to talk with the ignorant artists here and.. told to deactivate it(or remove the work), since her boyfriend got into a accident...
when she looked at those works she done for him..With him..she cried.. and theres no way she could handle to look at those works later on and not burst into tears..

Why she doesn't want to cry?-she only cried like that(real painful tears) only when someone she really cared for and loved..passed away. For her, looking at those works just makes her think more about her boyfriend..that something could go horribly wrong again..

It would be hard to help her boyfriend and come to him every day with cried face when the only thing that kept him alive till now was her smile no matter what.

**
Its not the actual story, because its afterall, really painful to translate something so horrible..

DA has a category for traced bases. They're completely allowed.

... /Confused epiclly/
FFF- But the story is sad...;; I would totally give her a free hug if i could.
But i hate traced bases... Im ashamed to have made one before.
I don't care if it's allowed on DA Standards...It's tracing and Tracing is wrong and stupid.
Taking someone's art and turning it into a bald naked person [Pff or even worse tracing the hair AND Clothes onto the base] is just sad... I feel bad for some Artists that are oblivious to the fact there art is traced and mindless 10year olds are drawing 5second shit all over it.
Thats what is the most nerve wrecking.

Also i have no idea if people are saying tracing is bad or good... FJSDFJDS The comments confuse me.

You're kidding right.. How stupid can you get, bases aren't against the rules or anything. You need to leave people the fuck alone.

FAQ #572: What does deviantART consider "Fan Art" to be?

Tracing is completely WITHIN THE RULES.

"When copying from an established source it is considered good etiquette to credit your source. Also please note that it may be considered unacceptable to precisely duplicate another existing work by directly tracing or reproducing every single detail so that it is difficult to tell your work from the original, so please be certain to add your own personal touches and style."

It says right there tracing is fine, as long as you "add your own personal touches and style."

Also, that's a very sad story and I'm sorry.

I used some arts as reference for bases but I -can't- trace. Not sure why, but I can't bring myself to.
I can't resist the call of bases, though :d It's like, something to do when you're bored, y'know?
Lately I don't submit what I made, though. (What happens in my head, stays in my head, or maybe paper or laptop)

I am very glad I'm past my base-making phase and moved on to drawing (more seriously).
I just hope you won't kill me for my guilty pleasure lol

FAQ #557: Can I submit pixel dolls which I have made using 'Base' dolls created by someone else?
FAQ #502: Can I submit 'Dolls', 'Characters' or other things which I made on certain websites in games or with 'generators'?

Pffft. Bases are indeed not the best to follow, but they are allowed on dA which proves your "step 8" wrong. It's not against dA to post traced bases. If you look through categories when submitting a deviation there's a special section that says "traced base". Customization>Digital dolls>Miscellaneous/Pixel Art/Tooled>Adopted Base/Base/Original Base/Traced Base. dA acknowledges the fact that there are traced bases.

FAQ #306: Does "Crediting" let me use whatever I want?
FAQ #257: What sort of permission do I need to use someone else's work?
~

I'm not blind.
I KNOW there is a section for traced bases. Too many brainless art theft defenders have said that to me.

I know that its nto against DA rules to post traced bases, BUT, it IS against rules, to post something without permission~ aka - TROLOLOL I CAN CREDIT SO ITS OK, trololol i don't care original artist doesn't want their hard work to be ruined...

Happy now?

"When copying from an established source it is considered good etiquette to credit your source."

You don't HAVE to credit, as long as it's CC.

Pffft, just pointing a few things out. (: And just to let you know, half my time on deviant art is spent searching for art thieves so I can report (which I suppose is a bit of hypocrisy considering that I use and make bases), however I think that-although traced- bases are more like references. It's similar to referencing because you're using the same pose, yes, but you're using it to turn it into something else. And some people do work "hard" on their bases, like specific details on clothes or hair. At least it isn't the same exact picture up for credit.

Thats nice of you to report them.
And really, I have nothing against bases(well i still don't like the 5minute-draw a line and fill....)
BUT.. when it comes to traced bases and those who use it.. cmon how is it different from stealing something else..?

So yeah.. this all traced bases hate comes from only one person- hoshi-bases who admited that she doesn't give a damn about original artist. Not to mention doesn't even spend time to make it nice(like the stamp states- don't draw eyes, wtf shadows)
I'm quite amazing that troll is even still here.

err...so yeah.
I have nothing against traced bases, as long they have a permission. :>

ShadowJackal35 In reply to Butterfly-She [2011-06-02 00:37:28 +0000 UTC]

Indeed. I actually find it very entertaining when some of them sends me hate mail. Ahh, good little trolls. =w=;
But anyways, you're right, it really doesn't have too much of a difference with tracing but I think that-because it's changing a picture to form a whole new character, or, maybe just another person-it really makes a difference. Kind of like referencing, you may be using the same form but you're using it to explain your own sort of scene, with your own set of characters. It's not always right, but you don't use the same exact idea. Aaand... Let's see..... Well, I totally just lost my train of thought, but hopefully you get some idea.

Ahh, I see. I've never seen her bases (I don't think)but I guess I should check them out... Like I said before, I've only recently started using bases because they're fast but when and if I do make one, I try to keep away from fan art, and if I do happen to use one, unlike what you've said about Hoshi who "doesn't give a damn about original artist", I make sure to leave a note that clearly states that I'd be happy to pull down the base, or give proper credit if the original artist happens to see it. I think that if you're going to trace a base, fine, be my guest. But if you do then you should probably trace the whole thing and so it doesn't, I don't know, offend the artist? Pffft. I'm getting no where with this, forget I said anything. XD

Darn this came out longer than I expected, sorry for bothering you.

it was really all mean >.> calling her horrible names and she just sorta popped out of no where, and couldnt say it nicely to stop making bases .. just sayin lol i hate for someone to get the wrong impression on someone innocent

Wow. That's. ..... Pretty amazing. I've made bases before, and I'm not about to hide that fact nor am I really proud of it, however I don't believe in name calling in something as trivial as that. Nor for really any argument which deals with opinions.

really, im not trying to hate on you or anything, but if traced bases aren't allowed on DA, then y does DA have a section specifically for bases like dolls, traced bases, and original bases? surely they could be fine with it. and if it really was art theft and DA didn't allow it, then they would send us warnings and make us take it down.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Butterfly-She In reply to EdmeEadric [2011-05-24 16:59:51 +0000 UTC]

I know that DA allows traced bases, but there still is that simple rule about=giving credits=/= you can post it.
weird huh?

How would you like it if somone took something you own and like(clothes,phone..etc),puts a sticker or doodles on it and then claims as their own? Please do tell me, how is that any different from these freaks who steal someone else hard work, draws horribly on them, post it here either giving credits to their photobucket account or-''OMGI NO LINK LULUL SORRYZ'' and then the original is ruined even more by few minute MS bucket...

ps.
you can hate on me for hating someone who steals i don't mind~

yu know, i actually have been thking about that a lot lately, about the "How would you like it if somone took something you own and like(clothes,phone..etc),puts a sticker or doodles on it and then claims as their own?" part... And I've been asking myself, "Would i want that to happen to me?"
I end up telling myself no, millionz of times, but I still can't resist bases D:
