Description
I'm sorry for uploading something sad today, but I had this idea a few days ago and just had to draw it. I don't even know if my bubbly drawing style is suitable for a drawing like this, and I had to change the style for Ted's body a bit to get it right, but I still like it a lot and hope you enjoy it too.I thought that maybe Teddy Tonks found the Mirror of Erised one night and found himself - unknowingly - just in the same place as Harry had been so many years before. I can imagine that the sadness of his loss simply overwhelms him and makes his hair go the same mousy brown his mother's showed while she was heartbroken.
But I'm also sure that Teddy can not be let down for long, and eventually the pride of what his parents did for the wizarding world and the love and care of his friends get him all turquoise again.
Edit: to the person who posted this to tumblr [link] - THANKS! I can't believe it got such an incredible amount of notes (and they are still counting up like crazy!). This really means a lot to me.
Edit 2: I fixed Remus' face a bit - put up his eyes a little higher so he looks more mature, and not like he's happily smiling down at his devastated son. My intention was for both of them to look happy, just like Teddy would like them to be. After all, it's his heart's wish that the mirror shows.

Thank you! ^-^ I only know of it being posted to tumblr though, so if you have seen it anywhere else too, would you please be so kind to link me to it? On tumblr it had a source link to me, so I'd be a bit sad to hear that people are reposting it without giving credit at all.

Hold up a second. Not trying to undermine this in any way, but wasn't Tonks still pregnant when she died? Wouldn't Teddy have died in the womb then? Just askin', no offense intended.

No, not at all. In the seventh Harry Potter book (Deathly Hallows) Tonks gave birth to Ted Lupin (who was named after her father who died during the war) and they asked Harry to be his godfather.
I take it that you have only seen the movies then, I think they left him completely out there. I can only whole-heartedly recommend you to read the books, you are missing out on two thirds of the story and the real good stuff when you only watch the movies. They aren't really good. ^-^

I read the book, but it's been a while. I should have known that Rowling wouldn't be so cruel as to stillbirth a baby. But she will kill off the baby's very popular parents immediately afterwards. Didn't they explode or something? I know somebody in that book exploded.

Hmm no, I can't remember anyone exploding... that would have been really gross I guess ^^" The cause of their deaths wasn't described, we just know they died because Harry saw them lying side by side amongst the fallen fighters in the Great Hall.

Not like guts flying or anything, I mean... No wait, I think Fred exploded or something. Tonks and Lupin were killed by the Offscreen Drama Increasing Monster.

Fred died from an explosion, that's true, but fortunately he did not explode himself D: god would that have been awful.

I thought he was killed by a killing curse, like most of the people (Tonks and Lupin included).

It's not nice to make me read this part again, but here you go:
"The air exploded. They had been grouped together, Harry, Ron, Hermione, Fred and Percy, the two Death Eaters at their feet, one Stunned, the other Transfigured: and in that fragment of a moment, when danger seemed, temporarily, at bay, the world was rent apart. Harry felt himself flying through the air, and all he could do was hold as tightly as possible to that thin stick of wood that was his one and only weapon, and shield his head in his arms: he heard the screams and yells of his companions without a hope of knowing what had happened to them. [...]
And Hermione was struggling to her feet in the wreckage, and three red-headed men were grouped on the ground where wall had blasted apart. [...]
`No - no - no!Β΄ someone was shouting. `No! Fred! No!Β΄"
So you see - explosion. Rowling even said that Fred died exactly where "the wall had blasted apart", so that is very clear Many people in the battle died not from killing curses, but were killed by the giants, by collapsing hallways and werewolves. Sometimes people seem to forget that a killing curse is not the only way to kill a wizard or witch. They are still human, they can still be fatally wounded or die from a sickness, just like all other people too.

Which also confuses me because the Power Rangers get hit by that all the time, and all they do is jump in the air for a few seconds and they're fine.

I think it would have been more thoughtful if they stayed alive. There were many others who could fight

button-bird In reply to NordicLynx [2013-04-22 12:22:27 +0000 UTC]
Sometimes I think so too. I don't think many new parents would leave their little son so shortly after his birth and go join a war with little to no expectations to survive. But on the other hand, they fought not only to create a better world for their son to grow up in, but for the whole wizarding world. If everyone put their own life and the possibility of their family member's grief before fighting, Voldemort would either still terrorize them, or they would have to live with the thought that they sent a 17-year-old to save the world for them because they were too poor-spirited....

NordicLynx In reply to button-bird [2013-04-22 18:17:14 +0000 UTC]
I know and I agree in a way. The best solution would have been that one stayed with Teddy and the other fought. Even if it would be very hard to decide who is going to do what

Well naturally it would have been his mother to stay back with him. Teddy was only a few months old, I'm sure he was still being nursed and everything :/ babies need their mothers.

That's just beautiful. It reminds me of Quentin Blake, in that apparently simple lines actually hold layers of meaning and resonance for the viewer. Thank you for sharing it!

This is the second time someone says my drawings remind them of Quentin Blake, and it makes me incredibly happy because I've loved his work since my childhood, but never tried to make something similar to him. He was one of those artists who inspired me not to give up, when I found that I hadn't the patience or amibitions to make hyperrealistic digital art and stuff like that - he shows that even if an artist enjoys a more simple style and traditional media, they are still artists of worth in our time.
Now it seems that it just happened that my work resembles his somehow, many years later. Thank you for your nice words and for looking at my art! I am so thankful I have this way of reaching out to people and share my ideas with them.

I'll never get over Fred's death. I just can't. But I find the thought behind Remus' and Tonks' deaths beautiful - as a reminder of all the parents who died in war and had to leave their children behind as orphans.

Fred's death was surprising and sudden, so of course no one can get over it. I just personally thought that Tonks and Lupin's were hard to get over, but I guess that it is more beautiful that way because of the variety that makes you feel, think, and relate to (of theirs and other's deaths).
