button-bird — Same mirror - same place - different orphan by-nc-sa

Description I'm sorry for uploading something sad today, but I had this idea a few days ago and just had to draw it. I don't even know if my bubbly drawing style is suitable for a drawing like this, and I had to change the style for Ted's body a bit to get it right, but I still like it a lot and hope you enjoy it too.

I thought that maybe Teddy Tonks found the Mirror of Erised one night and found himself - unknowingly - just in the same place as Harry had been so many years before. I can imagine that the sadness of his loss simply overwhelms him and makes his hair go the same mousy brown his mother's showed while she was heartbroken.

But I'm also sure that Teddy can not be let down for long, and eventually the pride of what his parents did for the wizarding world and the love and care of his friends get him all turquoise again.

Edit: to the person who posted this to tumblr [link] - THANKS! I can't believe it got such an incredible amount of notes (and they are still counting up like crazy!). This really means a lot to me.

Edit 2: I fixed Remus' face a bit - put up his eyes a little higher so he looks more mature, and not like he's happily smiling down at his devastated son. My intention was for both of them to look happy, just like Teddy would like them to be. After all, it's his heart's wish that the mirror shows.

Thank you even though I hate making people sad, it's a great compliment that I'm able to.

Oh my gosh, it is SOOOO difficult to even make me tear up- my friends have to whack me in the back of my head (where I had a concussion) to get that reaction from me. You got it in like, under a minute just from me staring at that picture. It's so heartbreaking!!! And I imagine Harry won't be around that much either, with his fame and his (potential) job as an Auror, so even though Teddy HAS someone, he doesn't REALLY have someone to confide in whenever he needs to.

Plus this is kinda how I feel a lot. Abandoned by two people that loved me very much. (My godparents split up and left me behind when I needed them most)
Therefore, it isn't just the idea of what I thought of, but it's also INCREDIBLY personal for me as well.

This is a huge compliment to receive as an artist. Thanks a lot!!

I imagine that, with these kind and loveable persons as parents, he also shows a similar personality and therefore has several really good friends in Hogwarts who are always there for him - just like the previous orphan did.

And you are welcome- and VERY deserving of the compliment!! Agreed on the second part too. Maybe the next Golden Trio or Marauders group is the "Rainbow Quartet"! Red, Green, Yellow and Blue!

Consisting of one from each house, or of metamorphmagi, or where do these colours come from?

Sinthujia-Delamorte In reply to button-bird [2013-04-15 10:34:32 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. I just thought that with Teddy being a Metamorphagus, it'd be kinda cool for the group name to be something having to do with varying colors.

Definitely! I wish there was a way to teach others to become Metamorphmagi, just like the Marauders taught each other to become Animagi. It would be the ultimative Marauders II era I'd so love to make a comic out of that. Not trying to steal your idea of course though, that is all your brilliance!

An OC in the story? ^^ Sure that's a good idea - but it'll have to wait until June, when my graduation from university is over and I have time and brain space to take in new things again

I absolutely love how you use watercolors, I tried but haven't been able to do something with watercolors !

button-bird In reply to Grouillote-oh [2013-04-13 07:49:21 +0000 UTC]

To be honest, it took me more than a year to get to this point where it comes naturally. So don't give up, watercolours are a fidgety medium, but definitely worth the effort!

The mistake I made for a loooooong time at first was to use too little water. Also I didn't know you weren't supposed to take the colour right out of the pan! Once I got that, I improved heaps.

Thanks a lot though : ) I have the feeling that I'm improving a bit lately, and your comment makes me really happy.

thanks I'd never have expected to be noticed so much in such little time. I mean, sure, fanart is the easiest and quickest way to get known a bit, but since there is such an insane amount of fanart around, I never thought I could actually make it. I'm so thankful for each single person checking out my work, and even faving and commenting, it's overwhelming!

Why would you make this . But at the same time, it's really sweet, I like the style, reminds me of a children's storybook illustration. Which only makes it more sad, honestly.

button-bird In reply to doodle-e [2013-04-13 07:42:04 +0000 UTC]

I asked myself that too >.< but well, you know how it goes, once you've got an picture stuck in your head it won't get lost until you draw it. And the positive side of all that is that Teddy at least got to see his parents in some way. As sad as the situation with Harry was, I somehow always felt a little happy for him that he was able to see James and Lily, life-sized, right before him, smiling down at him, moving. Muggle orphans never get that chance. It's at least something.
