Description
This is an abstract decorative Celtic knotwork design based around a circular knot that I think I adapted from one by John G. Merne. It's circled by interlocking spirals and framed by three-cornered knots, all set within a traditional repeating border design.Related content

And you get a bonus for observing the traditional rules of the style and keeping every path continuous and the overlapping always alternating under-over-under-over...so many modern artists ignore those rules...

How do you design these? Paper and ink (or pencil), graphics programs?

Most of these - especially the repeating patterns - start out on paper, then get scanned and colored in Photoshop. I've done some of the more freeform designs in Photoshop from start to finish, but they're the exception.

i've tried for some time (on and off) to reproduce some knotwork designs... but yours... WOW... these are phenomenal!

I'm jealous, you come up with so many variations, each one so unique and wonderful. I wish I could do that, unfortunately, I am also trying to learn other things about art, so I can not lend time to learn how to make such beautiful pieces of work.
