Description
Here's another Celtic knotwork design based on a couple of "gripping beasts" that look more like gryphons than they look like, say, badgers; so I've decided that's what they are. Gryphons of the snake-tailed school, anyway. They're based on one of the patterns I drew for a book on harp decoration that I was working on in the mid '80's; never quite finished it. But I did then do a 32 color version of them back on the days when I was working on Amiga computers, and resurrected that version for a thorough repainting in Photoshop not so very long ago. And here they are.

I have to say, your knotwork is one of the most unique I have ever seen, and the coloring is spectacular

badgers? that was their original destiny? heh. I find theyre much nicer as these here 'beasts'. I like the beast-bird look of deviousness. For some reason I just like that kinda avian face. O.o
Ive never tried such a thing. Im more into realism and life detail as to painfully symmetrical designs. I work by hand twell just thinking that a computer could help me with that.
I likes the jade colour in the center area.

Sometimes, a really long time. Sometimes, maybe not so long. The nice thing is that it's sort of meditative, so long as I keep the verbal bit of my brain distracted with music or the radio.

I am a Fan!
Seriously...
Amiga? did you work in Photogenics?

Photogenics? That isn't some draconian theory for exposing weak light waves at birth in order to strengthen the Spectral Gene Pool or something, is it? I wouldn't have anything to do with that, believe me.
But, erm, I did do my first computer graphics on Amiga computers about a gazillion years ago. Great machines!

These are all digital, though most of the Celtc work started out on paper. I have a huge folder - well, it's really more of a pile - and border and panel designs I did whe I was using a lot of this in watercolor and ink work, back in the 80's, and I'm drawing on that older work for ost of these. So for the most part I'm scanning my sketches and painting them in Photoshop. I use its airbrush and line tools a lot, and there are some filters I use to kickstart lighting effects - especially over the big areas; and I often mix in some fractal or natural textures over the body color of the design. I've been asked a few times over the past few days how I did one or another of these and the answers would just be so long, assuming I can even remember everything , because different areas of the designs get very different treatments to ultimately arrive at the same sort of place.

well, I have to repeat that I love love love the quality of your works, the details and the amazing colors...
And all these aspects are perfectly blended in something very complicate, that enhances the standard of the piece
I don't like tatoos, but with your art, you'll push me to do something! I surely call you call you for that! lol
Well another thing I like is the different tones that divide the two levels of the design.
Well done
