Love the tutorial!
it's very easy to follow, thanks!

Although, the blender does work pretty fine if you use it like described in this tutorial: [link]

Thank you for the wonderfully amazing tutorial. Honestly, it's THE best Copic tutorial I've read! I think because your commentary was so specific and the pictures really showed step by step as well. I feel like my artwork will be better because of you and my Copics will be used to capacity! The picture you drew, too, is really amazing.

Best,
Michi

With printer paper it really depends on the quality. Some types are much better, while others will have weird gritty textures and specks. It's not ideal, but you can still create great art with it.

I'm totally with you on the colourless blender. That thing is almost completely useless.

My favourite part of the tutorial is the extra part you included explaining what they are and how they work. It really sets this apart from all the other copic tutorials I've seen on DA, which almost always jump straight into colouring the lineart.

This makes me want to dust off my Copics and try coloring a piece. I'm pretty strictly a digital colorer because I love having the option of Ctrl+Z.

Thanks for uploading such a helpful tutorial.

You can also use painter's tape (usually it is blue and can be found anywhere that sells wall paint) instead of masking tape to block off areas. Since it is designed not to stick so much it makes a good alternative that won't rip your paper as much. It will rip it if you leave it on the paper for too long though...I think there is also a "sensitive" variety that is even less sticky but still sticks enough to do the job.

Oh AWESOME~!!!! I never even thought of that. Thank you SOOOO much; it makes so much sense. *LOL* I'll definitely try this kind of tape (since I have plenty laying around the house).
Awesome awesome awesome. THANK YOU~!

You're welcome. :3 We live by painters tape in art school! XD

Sometimes it can still be too sticky though, so you can still do the lint trick if you feel it might stick too much.

Beautiful tutorial! I just have one question; you mentioned blending with alcohol directly.. how exactly do you do this? Wet a q-tip? I would love if you could explain, because I'm dying to try it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bybystarlight In reply to sanya [2010-05-12 18:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Thank you so much for your comments.
For blending with alcohol, you can pour it directly into an empty marker (say that your colorless blender is empty, you could "refill" it with just alcohol). You can wet a q-tip and that will work fine; if the tip of it is very fuzzy, you can dab it do make neat effects. You can use a clean paint brush and dip it in the alcohol and then use it to blend. You could even use your finger. *lol* But I find using a cotton swab/q-tip works best if you need to use the alcohol.

I hope that helped~!! Please let me know if I can help with anything else.

That's perfect! Thank you so much for the quick response; I'm off to the drug store to grab some alcohol to give it a try! (Maybe I'll stop off at an art store and pick up some new colors too..)

Thank you again!!

About the masking tape a good trick is to take it off at a 45 degree angle. It really decreases the chance of tearing!

it says you don't need many pens
i have 10 markers, 5 skin tones, 1 black, 1 red , i yellow, i blue, i green.
is this enough?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bybystarlight In reply to devious-and-defiant [2010-05-12 17:54:50 +0000 UTC]

That's plenty, I think. Your pic won't be super colorful, of course, but you'll be able to make some very striking color combinations, I think. You can always mix/layer the yellow/blue/or skintones to get greens, and the reds/yellows to get oranges and browns.

Experiment and see what you can come up with~!! I'd love to see.
