The idea was the series served as a prequel to the 80's series in more realistic sense.

quite idiotic. 80's was more of comedy, while those of 2000's have been more...serious of nature, even though some movies and series have been made to continue the comedy of G.I JOE.

No, it was not a prequel to the 80's series, that doesn't make any sense. For one thing Ripcord was white in the 80's cartoon and black in Renegades and had superpowers. Lady Jaye had tan skin in Renegades but she was white in the 80s. Cobra commander went from an intelligent villain in Renegades to a dumbass in the 80's???

Also, there were references made to events that happen in mid and late 2000's in Renegades. The fact that in the last episode, the original voice actor Michael Bell came back as Duke from the 80's series and recounts his terrible dream where everyone was drawn horribly…

Thank you for your comment! I think Renegades cobra commander is one of the greatest leader in all the cobra commander.He seems to have the dignity as a leader. At the same time, I love 80's cobra commander's stupidity and insanity.I had never seen the villain like him until I saw him.The villain like him is unusual in Japan.So I love him so much!

I am sorry my reply is late.
I think Both of them are, but the 80's version is more.
In Japan,evil leader just give an order but he doesn't have a direct hand in his enemy. Cobra commander see action willingly and he goes so far as to fly a plane by himself.
He doesn't have super power.
But with his intelligence, He can run a vast organization.
I think This makes cobra commander different from the japanese villain.
Well, this is just my opinion.
