Description
I was inspired by the short story "Thoughts on Paper" from Turtle Soup. Or more specifically I was inspired by the paintings Donny did in that story. Of course Donny's paintings were pretty dark and angsty and... that's just not what I wanted to draw XDDDStill... even though it was only 5 Pages long I find myself staring over that story endlessly just for Donny's paintings. In the 2k3 cartoon he openly states that he has no artistic talent, but I like the idea of Donny having artistic skill a lot more... Even if the Turtle Soup series isn't exactly canon to the rest of the TMNT Universe.
Some obvious Vincent Van Gogh influence, also some obvious Gustav Klimt influence. And then, because Don used a lot of brown in his paintings I tried to keep it in that vein. His paintings also used a lot of dabbing.
This isn't exactly what I wanted to go for but it's very close so I'm happy
I probably had more to say... but I'm really tired XD;
I don't draw you enough, but I still love you Don~!

Beautifully done. I love the flowing feeling of the intermixing colors. *nods* It's very soothing, and brings out the highlights on his skin wonderfully.

The guy is an inventor, he lives art... whether he'd admit it or not. I'd like to see that 'Turtle Soup' thing though... I've never even heard of it outside of your stuff.
Anyway; excellent painting.

I absolutely love how you're pictures always look so soft.
I herd of the Thoughts on Paper story, I can't say I ever got to read it, but now I want to. I like the concept very much! And from what you said that Don's thoughts tended to be Agnsty and Depressing, for some reason that does'nt surprise me at all. XD;
Especially if it's based off on the comics. :3
The only thing though that seems a little off to me, or maybe it's you're Style and all.
But the Plastorn seems a little too low in my opinion, And the shell seems a little flat.
But I really like the picture in general anyways, and The Detail on his neck to his arm is very well done! Especially how you shaded it.
I'd have to learn how to do that on PS one day. It must be worth coloring like that. :3

C-Puff In reply to Shellsweet [2009-10-25 20:52:15 +0000 UTC]
The 'Thoughts on Paper' story was in Turtle Soup, and even though nothing in Turtle Soup can be considered canon it's still based more on the comics than the cartoon at the time.
I agree, the plastron is a little low my problem is always matching the plastron to how the shell curves under his arms. The two have to match up so th plastron can't sit too high or it'll make the shell be directly under Don's arms and that wouldn't be functional as it'd be uncomfortable for him to move his arms. As for the shell, that's just personal choice XD I like drawing the shell more streamlined simply for aesthetics' sake, but my logic behind it is "They're turtles! not tortoises! The shell should be a little flat if they're aquatic." Donny's arms are leaning a little back though, so it might make it look flatter than it is
Anyway thank you very much! I'm really glad you like his neck and arm because the neck is a piece of anatomy I love, and arms tend to give me a little trouble XD

Turtle Soup!! ARGH! I knew that! There's a comic book store near my school that sell a bunch of Turtle soup Comics still!
And I totally understand about the Shell now that you explained, I had a feeling the shell was part of you're Style but I wasnt so sure. ;3
Plastorn-Shells is always hard to fit into the equation anyway, I still have trouble drawing it out.

The brown backeound fits him well, and I like how you made it look like a spiral coming from his head. It's like as if all his smarts are being released or something into the air to form a beautiful painting. OwO it's pretty. Donnies thoughts are pretty....:3

This is truly beautiful! I should Watch you. Seriously. I have no idea why I haven't yet. XD
This picture makes me feel warm and cuddly, and somehow PROUD.
And I agree with the artistic talent; Donnie seems like the type who would either rule the artistic alley, or fail miserably. And it wouldn't be a surprise if he lied and said he sucked at it, in a try to not appear even more fantastic to his brothers. ^^
Do you have a link to this story? I would love to read it.

XDD Well thank you very much for the watch!
Haha Proud? That's very interesting but it makes me happy to hear!
Donny strikes me as the artsy type ontop of his more academic genius. After all he's a giant daydreamer and a big romantic XDD It just fits together for me. It's interesting how in the cartoon he really can't draw at all, but then in 'Thoughts on Paper' he's very good at it.
The story is a 5 page short comic story in the 'Turtle Soup' comics. I own the issue in thinback form but I'm not sure if you can find it online or not
I'm half tempted to scan and share it but I'm afraid to since I don't believe in piracy if it can be helped... but I really don't know how easy it would be to find a Turtle Soup Thinback from 1991 so I'm very torn.

One of them sees Donny's sketchbook but I'm not sure if was Raph or Mikey since that part of the story was in black and white. Whoever it was they thought the paintings were waaaaay to trippy.
But Splinter really liked them
hmmmm~ lemme scan them and upload them to photobucket and I'll send you the link via note. Otherwise dA might be bitchy about it XD;; *Likes sharing waaaaaay too much*

Of course. X3
The written version is... uh... written? No pictures. XD
I love this part in it *copies from the book*;
"Hey, what happened to the power?" Michelangelo asked as the lights and machines they were using suddenly went out.
"Nobody panic! I have it all under control!" replied Donatello, who was still in his lab.
"I smell smoke and a tinge of burning electrical wires," noted Leonardo.
"Under control! Under control!" yelled Donatello, before there was a sudden boom! The lights flickered back on for a few minutes.
Leonardo and Michelangelo watched Donatello scurry past them, his face and hands covered in black sooth.
"Heh," Donatello said sheepishly, "just working on installing the central air-conditioning. Nothing to worry about."
