Description
Coloured version ofHere is Lord Noriyuki, Ruler of the Geishu provinces and, I think it's safe to call him a friend of Usagi's (although the friendship is a little formal considering his sovereignty.)
I'm very fond of Noriyuki
However he never comes across as chilly or unapproachable and remains a very warm character. I find that, for whatever reason, there is still a wall constructed around him making it between difficult and impossible to reach in to who he really is as a person (I know I sure haven't been able to figure out just who he really is behind his guard) but I see this as something dictated by tradition and propriety regarding his position and doesn't have anything to do with the person himself.
I find myself often forgetting that, when the chips are down, Noriyuki is as a fact still a child. But maybe that's what makes him so likable. who knows.
They really didn't do him justice in the TMNT episode he was in, demoting him to simply a 'damsel in distress' XDD
I find Noriyuki's design ridiculously attractive
It was fun to play with how I would draw his face since I knew I couldn't draw it the same shape as the way I draw Usagi's.
|D erm... .anyway. here he is 8D
....
Origami texture, Japanese door thingy and plant aren't mine XD they're all found here on dA but I'm not sure where.

That's a very nice picture you did of Lord Noriyuki as well. One of my favorite stories that I've read involving him was "Kill The Geishu Lord!" (from "Book #19: Fathers And Sons"), even though it was actually a look-alike of him that was killed by the Neko ninja clan. But still, he happens to be one of my Top 10 Favorite UY characters as well.

I don't really know my knowledge of Japanese history is pretty much nil. I will have to research this Tokugawa

The Tokugawa shogunate (aka edo period) lasted from 1600 to 1868. It was an era of relative peace, but there was a lot of tension and a lot of ronin.
Usagi is set during the Tokugawa period, pretty much. The battle where his lord was killed was based on the battle of Sekigahara (I can't remember if that's what it's called in the book), which took place in 1600. It was the definitive battle that marked the end (sort of) of the Sengoku period and the beginning of the Tokugawa shogunate.
There was a final battle in 1615 at Osaka castle, where some holdouts got beat down
Sorry, I just nerded out a little bit there XD

I see I see! 8DD I knew the date hovered in the very first few years of 1600 (or late 1500 if we're in a flashback) But I don't really know the history apart from what Sakai has taught me XD *is shot*
I blame television! My History channel is so obsessed WWII that my knowledge of Japanese History is suffering! >( I must watch more documentaries! (as if I don't watch enough already)
....on the other hand I rather like Usagi's way of teaching me XDD maybe I'll self-educate myself after I've read all the books. a lot of fun comes from learning all this stuff through the comics themselves... like the story that describes more or less how a sword is actually made. It blew my fucking mind XDDD

Yeah! There's good stuff
Since Sakai is nisei, he probably has a similar fascination and is doing similar research to what I'm doing But he's got a much more intimate relationship with the historical stuff, since his family is Japanese
Anyway, I'm such a freaking nerd XD

don't worry XD I'm a nerd too. My knowledge is just a little lacking at this point.. but I plan to remedy this fact very soon *Loves to learn*

Sakai's awesome I just don't think he likes me very much XD
I first met him when I was president of the Japanese Club in high school (eeek) and we went to Little Tokyo in LA for Nisei week. The Kinokuniya bookstore was sponsoring a signing and discussion by Stan Sakai, and I got to meet him and almost peed myself.
And then later when I was about 21, I was all gothed out and met him at comic con. He seemed kind of creeped out by me and I didn't know what to say to him O_o And that happened for the next few years, too. At least the first time, I had drawn a picture of Usagi on my backpack and he thought that was cool Then the bag was stolen and the rest of the time, he was kind of weirded out by me.
Last time I met him, though, his daughter was really into talking to me because of my shirt, and he was friendly and nice XD

XDD awww, I've never met him at all That makes me very sad (and jealous as hell... better sleep with your eyes open tonight Pimpy!) It's very frustrating to be from a place so far away and removed from EVERYTHING I like and ALL the people I admire
Even while here in Canada... so close yet still so very very far.
And now I'm gonna go back to deepest darkest Africa in 2 months and once again be barred from everything awesome in life in favour of violence and ignorance
....I think I just emo'ed out. XD;; *crying on the inside*

I don't want you to go back to Africa! Perhaps you can come stay here XD What's a tourist visa to the US cost these days? XD

C-Puff In reply to Pimpypants [2010-01-12 18:33:13 +0000 UTC]
XD not that much (My dad and Brother had to get one for various long-story reasons) and the visitor's Visa lasts for 10 years which is neat.
I'm not planning to stay in Africa. Not at all. ....although where I'll go exactly is unknown XD;; *is a wanderer with no real home* America would be lovely though. I know California is very attractive both career wise as well as climate. But I would need to be hirable it's hard being a foreigner and trying to start a career from scratch and compete with citizen's applying for the same position. Especially in such a competitive field.
....life is stupid XD *crycrycry*

Well, the 3d rendering will get you enough work to pay the bills here, really. Not a lot of people are competent at that. I know you don't like it very much, but if you get good at it there's work available.
I moved here because California offers the most on the west coast to artists. There is a huge local art scene and also Disney and its feeder schools are located nearby. The thing that's great is that practically NO ONE is really FROM here. Everyone comes here to take advantage of the job offerings in the creative industry.
When are your classes over again? Two months?

XD;; most of my rigging if not all my rigging was done by my lecturer though. I did the modeling myself but I wasn't the best at it, and I don't want to do that as a career XD; I want to be an animator. I really love colour but I don't think i have the skill or the knowledge to become a colourist. I'm not considering character design, partly because so many people want to do that job already but mostly because I'm a lot better with working with a foundation already set for me and when given freedom to design what I want I get lost.
*draws pictures in dirt with finger* I just wanna animate XD;;; I'm a pure-blooded animator. It's what I love and what I live for *she says as she comments on dA instead of animating her short film* but I know that limits my hiring likelihood...ness.
My classes end on the 19th of February but I don't know what day I'm traveling home yet. a week or so afterwards I believe.

I just LOVE the use of warm colours for - as you described him - a warm character. It fits so well, and it's just what most of the Northern hemisphere could do with around this time of year Even the greyscale version feels a little warm!
And I applaud you for making a character doing "nothing" not look stiff and lifeless

and thank you very much X'3 I'm very glad to hear he doesn't look stiff and awkward.

This is a very well constructed and thoughtly planned piece. I admire Noriyuki so much, not just because of his nature, but also because he is a panda...I like pandas so much, they even remind me of my baby brother, who loves pandas so much. (tears) I was wrong to hurt you these past few days. There was a reason for my so called outbursts...but I cannot say why. I don't want you to think I'm sick in the head...well technically...I have a syndrome that came from a terrible trauma (no I am not making this up) I was wrong to insult your art and view points. I neglected to listen to my teacher's quote..."There is no wrong way to draw." Even an artist must be happy with his or her easel.
