I sometimes wonder how Pinkie feels, when all fans everywhere portray her straight hair mood as her being a homicidally insane person and never anything else. I wonder how she feels knowing that the way she expresses unhappiness and being upset, lonely and miserable is ALWAYS interpreted as being "bad" or "evil" and more often than not has her killing things.I wonder if it makes her feel she's not allowed to ever show a negative emotion... because people always interpret it as her being a monster.
I wonder what that says about this show's fans.

I always knew she was just sad, I even viewed her as just playing with the objects like toys to cope with her sadness.Β At worst, she having a hard time dealing with the "fact" that her friends now hated her, and was having a... sort of breakdown, but not one that would make her insane, and definitely not a murder.Β She was coping with her depression by playing with her "toys", but getting more and more depressed as she does, because that's all she can focus on.

I don't see her a monster, nor do I like it when I see thousands upon thousands of pictures of her being shown as mentally unstable and incredibly violent.
People who are happy all the time are the same people that don't know how to express themselves when they're sad.Β

Awwww poor Pinkie! But I think what started the trend wasn't straight hair but the fact that she was talking to inanimate objects, the background every time she twitched and her pupils dilating like a insane person you'd see on anime shows.

Pinkie is a pony of many faces she has many many versions of her,and we all love her because of that!

Well, the reason for crazy Pinkie is a certain infamous fanfic. (Ironically, what really, REALLY makes "Cupcakes" so ingenious is that Pinkie's personality was 100% spot on throughout the whole thing, she talked just like herself. Pinkamena wouldn't have worked as well.)

An accurate interpretation based on the show and, technically, based on the original works of the grimdark community as well. Pinkie Pie never had to be crazy to make a magnificent grimdark character. She was never straight haired Pinkamena in Cupcakes, though that's where a lot of the fan artists went with the idea. Still, I appreciate all fascists of miss Pinkie Pie, from the manic to the depressive, and all the happiness in between. That includes the grimdark take of the character as well.

I agree with you. Although it's a little overrated, I still think Silent Ponyville is an excellent example of how to use Pinkamina in a Grimdark story WITHOUT making her homicidal and crazy.

I love this for two reasons:
One, I absolutely agree that the whole Pinkamena = "homicidal maniac" thing has been pretty stale for quite some time. Sometimes a sad pony is just a sad pony.
Two, her expression is very well done.
