But as for the hands, I know how you feel. There are a lot of Undertale fanart pieces that make me feel like such garbage because they're so good X'D So I can at least empathize.

I did go to school specifically Vanarts in Vancouver, however we didn't specifically focus on hands while I was there, more anatomy in general. The day we did focus on hands my life drawing teacher actually told me I get hands down pretty well right off the bat. That's not meant to be a brag, I just mean I don't think "going to school" is specifically the reason I like my hands.

I think for me its a combination of 2 things.

The first is the mindset. Hands are the second most expressive part of the human body apart from the face. That's an important thing to remember. So I use hands as a way to emphasise a character's emotion or what they're talking about or their personality as a whole. You'll notice I don't have Sans do a lot with his hands in conversation unless he's worked up or trying to get across a point. (either to himself or something else) Or when he's thinking something over. Papyrus on the other hand (no pun intended) is very expressive. Both with his poses as a whole, but I have him use his hands a lot. Papyrus is very open with his emotions, so it reflects in his hands. He's much more likely to show concern or frustration openly. So his hands reflect that.

The second thing is simply reference. a loooot of reference. And I still use reference a TON. The good part is you have automatic reference with you at all times with your own hands! This is only a problem when you're trying to draw the hand from the outside. But in that case that's what phone cameras are for Take photos of your hands! Take photos of a family or friend's hands and make them pose them how you want!

Otherwise, here are some great things I use for reference a LOT:

Good hands to use are things drawn by Frank and Ollie. I recommend googling their model sheets. As well as model sheets, specifically, for Hogarth from The iron Giant, Disney's Tarzan, Darla Dimple from Cats Don't Dance, and any of the model sheets for Eugene from Tangled are really helpful.

I don't really look at tutorials for hands (the kind that come ins steps I mean) but I do trawl dA for hand studies. HOWEVER! Always be careful when referencing someone else's art for your own art. Because you're not just learning what they know, but you're also learning the things they do wrong. However, looking at other art helps you learn how to simplify. because too much detail is bad.
There are also a large collection of reference photos on dA for hands which are also great

Pinterest is actually a GREAT place for hand poses because a lot of pictures there are from Asian only "how to draw" books and posts so it's things you won't find on dA and are meant for manga artists. So there's some high quality pictures to look at there. Just search for "drawing" and "hands".

And lastly, Asterix comics. I believe Asterix is not widely released in America which is a giant shame. But if you can somehow find some of the comic. From any issue, really, I highly recommend looking at the hands in those books. I tend to lean more towards European comics in how I draw hands, rather than simplify them too much like you see in cartoons.

Otherwise, I will say hands take a LOT of mental energy for me, despite me liking them. So much so that when I stay up too late drawing, and I see it's time to draw hands, I will sometimes go to bed instead because hands take effort. And often they can be the thing I struggle the most with in a page.
