Description
This is a remaster of C-chan's debut of Windows 1.0-tan and 2.0-tan, taking full advantage of the SVG source file containing the complete artwork. Both their eyes and their hair highlights have been modernized, and the heads repositioned to enhance their appearance. 1.0-tan's family picture frame has also been enlarged to improve its visibility.Windows 1.0-tan's character design was a composite of a previous silhoutte drawing by an unknown Japanese artist, a preconcept design by C-chan's friend Aurora, and some of his own additions. A much later character design was created by Esu; but aside from any preexisting similarities, no attempt has been made to backport anything from the Esu design. Windows 2.0-tan was an original at the time she was created; although potential alternative Windows 2.0-tan's have propped up since, none describe themselves as representing Windows 2.0 so it's possible that she still remains an original OS-tan.
Having long been exiled from the Windows Family due to their obsolescence, Windows 1.0 and 2.0-tan now live among other vintage OS-tans after several years of wandering; that few people remember any family member prior to Windows 3.1-tan has helped them live in relative obscurity. Windows 1.0-tan is sweet, gentle and still collects keepsakes of her entire family, including the newer generation Windows-tans she's never met. However, being an incomplete prototype, she's accident-prone, slow in thought and overly innocent-minded.
Her immediate daughter, Windows 2.0-tan, is smarter and in full control of her faculties but is also more prone to melancholy because of it. She's also more prone to sickness, but still tries hard to help her friends regardless. Despite her young physical age, her experience in laying the foundation for Microsoft's rise to power has made her a very competent mason.

Thanks Warhead-san. ^__^
[hope you're not nuclear...]

Using a virtualization solution is a bit overkill for DOS emulation ("DOS" meaning MS-DOS and anything installed over it, specifically old Windows versions). I've seen lots of tutorials showing how to run Windows 3.11 from DOSBox, and getting fairly good performance from it. E.g.,:
[link]
So it should be even more possible to run Windows 1.0 and 2.0 in the same way, especially considering that both are smaller than 3.x and far more dependent on MS-DOS. -v-
Be sure to post screenshots if you succeed! ^v^

Well the turtarial was shitty, so i didnt use it at all, and i already got all files from an better and more trustable source. ^_^ [link]
*trying it now in DOSBOX*
>.<
Well i got the setup to run and all, the only thing thats bad is that i dont got an American keyboard, and that i HAVE to put the setup files on diskettes: ( and it sadly haw to be "A:\" and the sad thing is that i dont got "A:\"... (Becuse of Vista is buggy as fuck, so dose it think i got an internal Diskette drive and an external one called "B:\", but i only got 1 external! so "A:\" dont work at all becuse it dont exist, and i sadly haw to use just "A:\"! ;-;
i haw tried to unistall "A:\" but Vista automaticly installs it as fast i run Vista, so that wont help. T_T (i also unistalled "B:\" and reinstalled it and hoped it would become "A:\", but that didnt work...)
Anyway.... i really HATE Windows Vista now... even more then b4 honestly... i think i sadly haw to make it run on a Virtual machine, or buy an internal floppy disc drive and pray it becomes "A:\", (if it becomes something like "Z:\" so will i kill and unistall Vista Ultimate from my comp... so happy i didn't pay for it anyway...)
Anyway i gonna haw to put this project on ice for a cople of days, i now gonna order an internal floppy drive... i comment here again if i make it work, or sending u a message.

Fufu... not sure if you need to shell out money for another internal drive -- chances are it won't work either. Besides, this isn't life or death here, just a small little stunt. -.-;
I know it's possible to mount virtual floppy drives, link them into DOSBox, and then swap them virtually as you need them. That might be something you could explore if you haven't already ordered that thing. ^.^'
BTW, if Vista is kinda/sorta being a pain in the ass, might not be a bad idea to change to something else. Or at least dual-boot something else more....... floppy-friendly. ^^'

Fufufu... Ultimate Edition is something akin to Ubuntu on steroids, so I guess you're fine there. ^.^
But unless UE itself is in a virtual environmention, why not just go ahead and try out DOSBox in there? Ubuntu probably wouldn't have any problem recognizing your floppy disk drives, and besides which since it has no drive letters you have to explicitly mount them in DOSBox as any letter you want (so you can declare your external diskette drive as "A:\", not "B:\".
On the other hand, it's been two years since I used floppies in Linux -- and it was SAM Linux and DreamLinux, not an Ubuntu derivative -- so can't really talk much about what I don't know. ^___^'
I'm about to start working on the artwork for the biweekly update, so I'm afraid I can't help you very much after this notice [going into Stealth Mode until my drawings are done]. But the wiki page here describes how to mount drive letters explicitly in DOSBox, both in Windows and in Linux:
[link]
Assuming you're still in Windows, you can either mount actual drives like so:
Z:\>MOUNT A B:\ -t floppy
or you can mount a folder as a drive like so:
Z:\>MOUNT A C:\DOSBOOTDISK
And in the last case, I imagine you can handle the multiple disk problem by waiting until the Windows 1.0/2.0 Install asks you for the next Disk. What you can do there is delete the contents of C:\DOSBOOTDISK, download the contents of the next floppy disk into C:\DOSBOOTDISK, switch back to DOSBox when you're done, then press CONTINUE. Hopefully that might fool DOSBox into thinking you inserted a new disk. ^_____^
But if you get the actual drive letter swap thing working, then you probably don't need to go through all that PITA. ^.^
Alright, that's all I can do for you for today. Good luck and have fun! And don't waste money on this. ^___~
*trots off*

Don't worry, i could use an internal floppy anyway. ^.^ (and im also more or less out of floppies, so it was just good i ordered some more.)
Anyway i tried to fool dosbox as you said, but it seems like dosbox wont get fooled, and just restarting the 1 setup disc all over again. (i replaced the files, but it still just started up disk1, so i assume DOSBOX stores the floppy disk at an temporary memory, so i sadly cant trick it that way. :/ )
Anyway thank you so much for the help i got so far. ^_^ I haven't used DOS in a while, but i think i can manage to find a way to make this little project work in one way or another. :3
Anyway many thanks for the help, and i cant wait for your next update. <3

I'm back. ^^
Sorry, guess that didn't work.... -v-
Or rather, according to this site...
[link]
...we needed something else (CTRL+F4) to get that idea to work. ^^'
I remembered something else that might have helped (too late now since you bought the extra drive).
There's a chance that multi-floppy installations might work if you download all the files from those floppies into a single folder, and then mount that folder into DOSBox (either as a floppy drive or as a virtual "C" drive). Even if the files are separated into different floppies, chances are the install program won't need the if all the files are in the same directory.
That's just a hunch, though... but now that the new drive is almost here, you might as well do it the old fashioned way. ^-^
Oh well, have fun! Glad I was able to offer at least moral support, cause I really ended up doing nothing.... ^v^;

i tried to make all a single floppy, but it didn't work out sadly, because some of the installation files is named the same on some discs, and renaming them will probably just cause an error.
Anyway i gonna try do it the old fashion way and boot from floppy disks, and the internal floppy drive was cheap so dont worry, also i needed more floppies, because im kind of more or less out of them, and those i got are old and got things i want to save, so shopping was just a good thingy to do. ^_^
Anyway thank you very much for your help, was fun talking to you. ^w^

Thank you. ^^
The background, btw, supposedly hints ever so slightly at the old Microsoft logo from the mid 1980's. ^__^
