LUKE SKYWALKER
Luke Skywalker is the last hope of the Jedi, the son of legendary Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker and an idealistic and hopeful farm boy living on the barren world of Tatooine. After purchasing two seemingly well-off droids, Luke is thrust into midst of the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire, encountering Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi, rescuing Princess Leia and destroying the crown jewel of the Empire, the Death Star, alongside his new allies Han Solo and Chewbacca.

PRINCESS LEIA ORGANA
Princess Leia Organa is the adopted daughter of Bail and Breha Organa, heir to the throne of Alderaan and the secret biological daughter of Padmé Amidala. One of the key leaders of the Rebellion, Leia was captured by Darth Vader over the desolate world of Tatooine attempting to deliver a message to Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi. Forced to watch her homeworld be destroyed by the Death Star, Leia is assisted by Luke and Han in destroying the Sith super weapon at the Battle of Yavin, saving the Rebellion and giving her a second chance at dismantling the Empire.

HAN SOLO
Han Solo is a Corellian smuggler, the best friend of Chewbacca and captain of the Millenium Falcon, the fastest ship in the galaxy. Originally content living a life working for Jabba the Hutt, Han is swept into the Galactic Civil War by aiding Luke and Obi-Wan in rescuing Princess Leia and saving the Alliance by destroying the Death Star, ultimately being heralded as a hero across the galaxy.

CHEWBACCA
Chewbacca is the Wookiee copilot of the Millenium Falcon and the life-long friend of Han Solo. A veteran of the Clone Wars, Chewbacca is swept into yet another war alongside Han when they help Luke Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi rescue Princess Leia and save the Rebellion by helping Luke destroy the Death Star at the Battle of Yavin.

(PERSONAL THOUGHTS 💭)
Hello there. With today (or tomorrow for you yanks) being May the Fourth, I figured I would celebrate the legendary, decades old space opera with this piece of art highlighting the main quartet of the original trilogy (sorry 3PO and R2. And Lando).

Now, much like “The Cute Paradox”, this artwork was inspired by the cute player icons from Overwatch 1 (back when that game was actually good lol) and I think i liked how well it turned out. Granted that’s because this artwork is very simple at a conceptual level and initially I was content having just the base, block colours, but I decided to go back and add some highlights, shadows and texture to the subjects (see Chewbacca’s fur and the addition of freckles and blemishes on Luke and Leia’s face respectively).

Star Wars has been an important part of my childhood; I grew up watching the original trilogy and the first two prequels on our duel VHS-DVD player and my best friend and I performed the Battle of Mustafar for our Year 4 stage play. Good times. I also was lucky enough to witness and watch all the Disney films in cinemas, watching fan theories and getting into the hype of each new film. Now, Star Wars is a franchise on the decline; I blame the Rise of Skywalker and its disastrous release, as well as the launch of Disney+, in banishing Star Wars into a shadow realm of irrelevance and apathy amongst the majority of the population. And whilst I loved the Bad Batch (and certainly was happy with the predications and outcomes in the series finale), one animated project is not enough to save this ailing series from falling deeper and deeper into darkness, so hopefully (fingers crossed) the Mandalorian movie delivers in bringing Star Wars back into the cultural zeitgeist (or it royally blows up in Disney’s face and just kills the franchise even harder than Episode IX).
