Description     “So, Quasi,”
    “Huh?”
Brook’s muffled voice broke him out of his thoughts, and he warmed when he realized she had taken a bite out of the mangled squirrel.

“How have you been faring? You know, with the whole move?”
“O-oh, uh, I mean— it’s a nice place and all. Nice open spaces, nice cover for hunting, quite a beautiful place to be at in Moon-High too. Yeah…”
He began to sweat nervously. He had broken the one rule in coming there though, do not get involved with the “neighbors” lest they were to deal with unnecessary bloodshed from provoking the territorial Pedégrians, and he didn’t think he was going to be able to lie out of not doing that. Especially if it came to her asking him questions. Or his older brother…

“But… you don’t seem quite satisfied with it…” Brook finished what he couldn’t bring himself to say, and it was due to the reasons she thought.

“It’s just— not fair that the pedigrees can’t see reason!” He couldn’t help but burst out with; when she could basically see right through him. And he wanted to mask his real frustration with something he had realistically argued with the his brother on a while before.

“Quasi, you know what Boreal said. They’d only see any action taken by us as a threat. It’s better we build as much strength as we could under their noses before moving on to a new place… preferably one that isn’t ruled by greedy pedigree dogs…” she let a bit of her frustration and distaste slip through as well, but only for a moment. Only enough for him to realize he wasn’t alone in his frustration.

He took a deep breath, allowing his initially prickly fur to smoothen out and his tensed muscles to relax. He didn’t want to take his frustration out on Brook. But, it was hard since she was one of the ones most affected by the Pedégrian kingdom’s unfair treatment and exclusion of their weak pack’s needs. And his heart wrenched in his chest to think about how she couldn’t possibly go on another migration with the current state she was in. Instead, he decided to distract her from that miserable topic and refer to her upcoming baby. His… soon to be niece or nephew…
“Well, on another topic, how are two doing?” He bowed down playfully, pawing over at her as she gracefully took another bite of the squirrel between her paws.

“Well,” she sighed heavily, though a wry smile played on her muzzle,
“It’s been— a bit tough, to be perfectly honest to you. With everything going on—“
Quasi grit his teeth together tense, preparing to hear how hungry she was and how weak she was, if Spruce’s words to him earlier were anything to go off of. But he was a bit surprised to hear nothing of the sort,
“I’m not able to help all of the others here who are struggling. Everyone’s hungry, and I can’t exactly help too much with that. If anything… I really don’t deserve this squirrel, Quasi… someone else perhaps needs it more than me…”
Quasi let out a slight breathy chuckle, honestly not too surprised about how she truly felt, he realized, as the selflessness was just exactly in her character. It was definitely a sign she wasn’t too hungry or out of sorts to be acting any different from who she truly always would, to which he was grateful. But he wasn’t about to let her get too carried away with her bleeding heart.
“Well, glad you have some very dependable hunters in the pack who can pick up whatever slack there could be. Aaaannnddd, not to brag, but I’ve become one of the greatest hunters in the entire area. Be it mountain ranges, riverbanks, or even open fields, I’m your Omega. So, for now, you should finish your mangled squirrel, because— I don’t know about you— there’s someone else’s strength you need to keep up.”

He playfully nudged the half—eaten squirrel towards the obviously starved She—Wolf, stubbornness and all, and she slightly giggled at his antics. The jingle of it making his realistically erratic heart flutter even more.

“Yes, I suppose you’re right. You truly are a great friend, Quasi.”
