Piper was born on December 17th, 1927 to Clara Harris-Nelson, a normal human, and William Nelson, a Homo Magi without knowledge of his power. Being adopted, he hadn’t known much of his past, including his true origin. Despite being a young couple, they were quite content with having a child. Piper grew up loved by the family, however, when her Grandfather and Uncle Kent went missing, William went after them. When her Uncle Kent (who was a good ten years older than he was before) returned with her father, she was stumped, to say the least.

Kent, now with the powers of Nabu, sensed magic within the girl and her father and decided to train her using his vast knowledge of the occult. They were quick to find her source of magic, and get a sense of how powerful she was early on. She was a Homo Magi, a species that evolved in a parallel but separate line, alongside Homo sapiens. Nabu began to teach Piper. Realizing she could become a good protégé, he began to train her in more forms of magic, even forming her a suit and her own stomach plate. After her first mission, she was scolded by her mother for not telling her, but in the end, she allowed her to help possibly save the world. After Kent built the Tower of Fate in Salem and moved there with Inza, Clara, William and Piper moved there too.

However, after one battle with Klarion, the Lord of Chaos, she ended up getting stuck in the Amulet of Anubis. After the battle, Nabu came to the realization he cared about the pathetic human, and spend the following years trying to save her from the Amulet. 2009 hits a Nabu figured it out, with help from the souls of the previous Amulet wearers, she was freed, nothing more than 3 days had passed for her. When met with Kent, who was now much, much older and she was confused, to say the least. How was he this old? Her surroundings were much different too, and her parents weren’t anywhere to be seen. After being filled in on the missing 68 years, and the loss of her mother, father, and aunt, Piper felt broken. She’d missed so much within mere minutes. It was so much. To get her mind off of the whole subject, she retook on her role as Fortune, who was reported M.I.A. back in 1941.

It made headlines in Salem, the town rejoicing in the return of Fortune. Piper’s personality dulled within this time, it showed in particular when stopping a crime, becoming relatively ruthless when it came to stopping them. It also took her a long time to get used to all the new technology. Flat-screen TV’s, with so many TV shows and movies. Then there were things she wasn’t even there for the making of. Computers, mobile phones, all of which she missed out on. She was aware of the Justice Society, but not the Justice League. She was filled in on so much when she joined High School, not aware of any type of new day slang. Within her year of High School in Salem, it changed her so much with all the new friends she made. She grew used to the technology, especially with Netflix, which caught her up on a lot of the times. She adjusted to slang, and as she grew over her loss, her comedic tone grew back.

She wasn't immediately part of the Team, or introduced to them. She was in New Orleans with Kent and was the one to be alerted when he went missing without a trace. She searched for him almost immediately, only when she couldn't find him she went to the League with her issue, only to get scolded for not telling them sooner. She was then introduced to the Team when Red Tornado briefed him on a mission, where they went to find them in the Tower of Fate.

Witnessing the death of Kent, and still protecting Wally only for him to put on the helmet. She was met with Nabu, who also scolded her. He informed her of Kent's status, giving her his last words, before releasing Wally. She had to join the team now, having no home and so she did. She fit in almost immediately, making a great part of the Team.

Personality:
Piper is generally known to be one of the most genuine people you can talk to, always talking from the heart. She is certainly one to wear her heart on her sleeve and she tends to get emotionally attached quickly due to all the loss she’s withheld, a trait she attempts to hide when she becomes 'Fortune/Orlay'. She is truly kind and tends to be quite an extrovert, despite being able to work well on her own. She is seen as openly friendly, despite few finding her obnoxious. Within the five years, this trait has been shown to slowly disappear as she matures and grows to realize that she doesn’t always have to be the comedic relief in the room. She grew more sarcastic and witty, her comedic nature never faltering alongside her mischievous side. With her age, she'd grown more flirtatious, not ashamed to seriously get her flirt on or jokingly flirt with her friends.
She can be quite blunt, despite trying to spare someone’s feelings she speaks the truth. When told a truth she doesn’t want to hear, she can become quite ignorant before the realization hits and she realizes it is true. Despite being quite willing to help with people’s feelings, she refuses to share her own with others, tending to keep it bottled up until it explodes, where she takes it out on the bad guys.
