Last comic for 2023.

A few months ago, I did a status post where I said "2023 isn't just the Year of the Rabbit: it's the Year I get my sh*t together". Which is why I haven't been as active here this year as I'd like to. Because for most of this year, I've been working my butt off offline in school, work, and god knows what other departments to help make sure that my horizons would be brighter than the trauma in my rear view mirror. I won't say my exact progress right now (mainly for the same reason I won't tell you what's in a hot dog: I legit don't know) but I will say that I honestly feel like I'm in a better place now than I was when this year started.

Then again, at the beginning of the year, I was scrubbing public restrooms for a living. So the fact that I'm not anymore is already a massive step in the right direction.

As for this comic; this is something I was working on during that gray area between the holiday season and New Year's.

In it, Ruben's family is over for a big holiday party and Ruben and Savannah find themselves at the mercy of one of the oldest Christmas traditions; the mistletoe.

I'm also just realizing this may be one of the first, if not that first comic I ever did where Ruben and Savannah actually kissed. I'll be damned.

And yes, it turns out that mistletoe was placed by Ruben's father; Ruben Falcon Sr. I was going to extend the joke by having Ruben's robotic sidekicks; Rosewood and Houseware, and Savannah's sisters; Kendall and Brittany, be part of the act, but I thought it'd be better if it was just him.

Especially given that my dad, may he rest in peace, would've done something like this if he was still around. Back when I was young, he use to try his best to convince me to start dating. Asking me about all the girls in my life and all the best ways to be a ladies' man while still being a gentleman.

So, yeah, placing a mistletoe above my head when he sees that I brought a cute girl over for a holiday party: yeah, that's the kinda thing he'd do. And that's why I loved him so much back then and miss him so much now.

Anyways, I wanna thank you all for 5 wonderful years in this account. Restarting my life here on DeviantArt was a biiiig step for me after deciding to cut a lot of toxic perverts from my life. And I'm glad to look back at that decision I made without a hint of regret.

Here's hoping 2024 will be the year we finally get a break.
