Love this one! I was browsing the Emoticon section in "Add Media" for firefly, as in the abandoned TV-series, just to see what it'd cough up, and that led me here. Awesome, creative idea!
May I ask, how did you get it in there, you know, that it appears in the search? I did one or two emoticons of my own and put them into the emoticon category and all that, but they don't.

As for your question, I'm not sure I can answer it. When I made this emoticon back in 2006 it was not available to use on the DA site - it was "just" a piece of art like everything else. Then suddenly, a year or two ago or so, I started getting notifications that people were using my emoticon in chats, so it must have been moved to such a category/functionality automatically. So I don't know if it's available in chat because of the size, the format of the subject (small round DA-like person), or because of the category it's in called "chat friendly emotes". If I were you I'd start there though, by putting it in "chat friendly emotes". Or ask the person responsible for this category how it all works - people are usually quite nice at answering questions here.

I'm pretty convinced it's the males that glow... But who knows, maybe fireflies are an exception to the usual shiny, colourful "look-at-me!" males that nature have, hehe.
