Nicely done but it's the fight scene between Mara Jade and the Luke Sywalker clone from Timothy Zahn's novel "Star Wars:Β  The Last Command", the third book in his "Heir to the Empire" trilogy.

Oooh I really like these illustrations. They were the proper representation of the descriptions on the books, as opposed to the ones that became more popular from the comics :-/

These will always be the official ones to me!

I remember chomping at the bit for the release of this sourcebook and thought this really put to art what Zahn put to words. Love the galactic map behind them.

I completely agree. This art gives a perfect visual representation to that moment in the book when she finally gives in to the voice in her head and charges. The off look on his face gives a great feeling and definition to Β his insanity. The entire scene is fraught with desperation on both sides. Well done, Mike.Β

My West End days were awsome, Eric. I had a ton of fun creating images for the dedicated players who bought those expensive books. This was a great full pager to be assigned, and I'm pleased you think it does justice to the text!

I hope that is Luuke she is about to strike down. Excellent!

Mara is going to do some impromptu heart surgery on him with her light saber. HA!

You mean "Luuke," as in Luke's evil clone.

I can see that. You can see that this is the clone because he wore the cloak.

delicious Zahny epicness without timothy zahn's work. Shadows of the Empire. splinter of the minds eye. genndy tartakovsky's original clone wars micro-series. and all of the other comics. novels. rpg supplements. video games. storybooks. cartoons. etc etc that have made up the "EU" since Marvel Comics' Star Wars #7 in January 1978 i wouldn't be the person i am today

It was the Luuke clone that Mara killed, thus freeing her from Emperor Palpatine's last command: "You will kill Luke Skywalker".

That is a terrific picture. I think it should be colorized!

Yes...both you and PurrfectlyUnique caught that error. I suspected it was the clone, but wasn't sure. Good catch on both your parts!

Oh, I remember this one well! From the "The Last Command Sourcebook." Still loving it after all these years! (And it's Luuke the clone, by the way.)

caesar120 In reply to PurrfectlyUnique [2011-04-13 21:56:56 +0000 UTC]

That's right! I remembered the Luuke clone, but couldn't remember if this was in fact him in this scene. The spelling (and consequently the extended pronounciation) evolved in a running joke by my editor at WEG, who took to calling me "Luuuuuke". Why? Because I was recieving "fan" mail from someone who actually believed I was Luke Skywalker! Little did she (the fan) know that I was just a clone!

Cute? Mhm..15 years removed, it's "cute"...but at that time, it was SCAREY! The woman was SERIOUS!

Oh my goodness! It appears that the situation was a lot worse than it sounded! (It makes my problems with people trying to tell me how to write my stories seem tame!) I take back my "cute" comment!

Heh..it was indeed a very weird situation. Four letters over an 8 month period (each one stranger than the previous), complete with poetry, and photos (of her...dressed as Mara Jade). She claimed that I had been brainwashed in order to forget my true identity. Life can get interesting at times!

Hopefully your admirer is now in a psych ward somewhere. Something like this would have scared the daylights out me. It's not called stalking for nothing!

It was a bizarre time! It was my sincere hope that she was IN a psyche ward when she was sending these letters!

Leppardra In reply to caesar120 [2011-04-18 00:50:57 +0000 UTC]

Heh-heh, if she was in a psyche ward, I doubt they'd let her mail those letters, much less run around the ward in a Mara Jade costume. That would be like adding gasoline to the fire!

caesar120 In reply to Leppardra [2011-04-18 02:28:29 +0000 UTC]

The pics she included with her first letter showed her (dressed as Mara) at some kind of Star Wars Con. One had her kneeing Bobba Fett in the groin!
