It feels good to finally update my gallery a bit, but it also feels a bit clunky.
There are plenty enough Journals out there explaining my lack of DA activities lately so I won't bother to list them here.

I've been working on this piece for a while, on and off, just cleaning it and slapping on some colors here and there. It is obviously an updated design for the Phoenix (though I maintain that I still aim not to portray it too often; it woulds detract from the impact it will later have in my book, if you keep seeing it flaunted around in my gallery) and though it may look radically different in places, strangely little has changed.
Gone are those flimsy "thrust angling arms" from before, even if they can still be fitted to this version, I ran out of space to draw them and decided that the Phoenix can actually do quite well without them, even if there are a wide variety of spherical jet housings it can employ, instead. All with varying numbers of nozzles or outlets.

A big change though, are the "bridges" that stabilize the fuselage and also give the molecular field that stabilizes the plane in high-speed flight, a basis to be projected from. The thrust-vectoring fins at the rear, can also flange and fan out as before (though I've rarely drawn that) and pretty much every black (or "purple" for sake of not hurting the eyes too much) detail, can be blown or sheered off without limiting the plane's abilities significantly.

The additions and alterations though, made me decide that, while the Phoenix can still hover in mid flight and turn at crazy angles and speeds, it cannot take off vertically as before; in fact, it needs to land prone on to a special docking array (something that was actually mentioned in an earlier script of my book and so, I'm going back to that design) this effectively limits the Phoenix's options of deployment as it sports no landing gear of its own. The two "cavities" nearest the middle of the central "pod" are there for docking arms to be inserted and to hold the plane in place, as other plugs are meant to slide into the dorsal/ventral exhaust/inlet ports = as before, the plane is horizontally symmetrical / identical on both sides and the insides of the cockpit, still rotate along the planes axis.
The cannon could now be scaled down as it no longer serves as landing gear and can rotate freely around the circumference of the pod. I also scaled down its effectiveness as it now only fires a "cascading" blast of plasma that, while it cannot disintegrate a target right-out; will keep exploding on its way to the target if intercepted and will be very hard to dodge or block. The limitations of the cannon remain the same as before, mainly due to overheating and limits in its self-contained ammunition supply.
