Description
Designed by guspathFolded by me from 12" Gold origami foil
I apologize for the messiness. Origami foil just loves to turn itself into a crinkly mess (and despite using a 12" square, it was probably still too small) =/.
So some backstory: I saw gustpath's Gryphon [link] a few years ago and was struck by how well the model was folded with its wonderfully done color-changed gold trim. Of course, I immediately attempted to recreate the model via his [hard to read] progressive photos and crease pattern. This was probably when I was barely familiar with reading crease patterns. I failed, and filed it away for future consideration. I attempted this model several more times over the course of the past two years, all without success. Much more recently however, I decided to give this project one more try, considering I had grown much since designing my own models. As you can see, I've managed turn out a successful model, albeit not nearly as nice as guspath's original model. Certainly not my neatest work, but I'll take this small victory.

I've never seen anyone that has managed Gspath's gryphon like you! Impressive! I've been trying to fld it myself but I'm too confused with Guspath's small and uclear pictures.... so I gave up. But now I see your nicely done gryphon so maybe I'll give it a try once again! Thanks a lot. I'm re-motivated.
I'd be reaaaaaaalllllly appreciated though if you could share what kind of base is that or share the crease pattern of it. Congratulations anyways!

Thanks! Though this was a long time ago so I don't remember too much about the folding process. As you saw from Guspath's progress pictures, they are absolutely tiny and hard to see. Unfortunately I don't have any crease patterns or notes to share with you. I only had that same progress picture you commented on, and tried folding off the creases in that photo. There was some fudging involved but as long as you got 4 legs, 2 wings, a head and tail, that was close enough. A lot of the attractiveness of the model comes from the pose, color change, and final shaping which he doesn't show.

Thank you for your feedback maybe I'll have to waste my print papers(lol) until I get the base right

Ooh, can you share how it was done? I've tried to make sense of it before and always failed.

It was mostly a bunch of trial and error following his notes [link] . The picture is kind of hard to work with (it's absolutely tiny), but try to follow the crease pattern in panel 6. My results ended up being less than exact and I'm pretty sure I got some reference points wrong, but what you should be going for is a base with 8 flaps: 4 legs, 2 wings, 1 tail, and 1 head. I hid the paper sticking out of the belly/back by pleating it in and out until it was all hidden inside the body.

Wow.. You are amazing. I hate working with foil paper. It's evil, I tell you, evil.

Congratulations! I was still impressed at first look on the cool design. I can see how guspath's original is a bit more composed but considering how difficult this apparently was, I imagine this is definitely worth celebrating!

Hard mode: Make Tim.
If you accept I'll take whatever challenge you've got that takes about as much time to do.

Interestingly enough, I have Tim on the brain as well. He's actually easier considering his simpler features and shorter(slightly) appendages.

Oh man, fantastic! If you do do it you have to request something in return though. It'll be a meeting of the minds, and it will be glorious.

I'm gonna find some play-dough. And I'll make my own Tim. Oh man, idea: I make a Tim or a Woona for Ego at Bronycon using play-do for MAXIMUM QUALITY.
