Description
Designed and folded from an uncut 12" square of yellow TantThis tigrex was the first wyvern I folded from my quadrapedal wyvern base. Although I had a fairly good idea of what to do from test folds, the Tant actually ended up being almost too small and too thick to shape properly. However, it was the only yellow paper I had on hand (aside from my only sheet of origamido!). I found the relative roughness and texture actually kinda worked well for it's primitive nature. What I learned from finishing this fold, I put towards the nargacuga.

Honestly, I don't remember. If you have the rest of the body down, I might be able to fiddle around with this again and show a rough approximation of how I did the head. I'm currently pretty busy so remind me again in a couple weeks.

Hey, not bad! It's always nice to find someone interested enough in my models to try folding them, so thanks! As far as shaping and final details go I like to think different folders like different things; some people go for more simplistic whereas others strive for details. It's certainly up to you. However, if you want to refine some shaping, it comes with practice. You can make a bunch of test folds and try all manner of trying to shape them until you find one you like (I did this). Also I find it helps to fold lots of origami instructions (those designed by many other people) to get a feel for how other artists detail their animals.
I can also try to describe what I did:
head - made from the thick, pointy center flap. I squashed this point open to have more paper to work with and widen the flap near the tips.
arms - the claws actually happen about halfway down the arm. The rest of the flap is folded up to form the folded wings and some tricky layer unwrapping is done to expose the claws.
legs - pretty much what you did there; I just used more pronounced reverse fold and bends to shorten that limb.

thnx for the tips, I did my best to try and copy yours, I used wider paper instead of thinner so that i can get a clearer view of the folds i needed to do, thnx anyways!

could you give me instructions on how you folded it that way? i'm just used to doing easy to intermediate origami, so i figured i should try this, the base is easy, the making of the final product from the base gets a bit hard. So anyways, thnx in advance.

Unfortunately, I don't have instructions for that. Indeed, getting from the base to final model is the tricky part. However, it's a way for different origamists to stylize the way they finish the model. There's a fair bit of trial and error involved, but I'm sure you can do it. Remember, its usually harder to try to exactly replicate what you see than to improvise and see what you can shape yourself. Good luck!

okay, well, i'll try, but which do you think is easier, making the tigrex or the narga? I finished the base but the details are hard to make, i'm using copy paper, should i use thinner paper?

They are actually almost identical. The narga is black, has a smoother tail, and is posed slightly different than the tigrex. So go with whichever one you like better. Copy paper, which should give a 8.5" square is a bit on the thicker side for its size. I had used 12" tant for the tigrex and even that was a bit hard to fold. It's doable, but I'd recommend a thinner or larger sheet.Β
