how do you make your sketches look so neat and tidy? Mine look like massive scribbles when I do them on the computer

You gotta be more confident with your strokes. If you want to increase the thickness instead of going over it just press hard. If you do want to go over it make sure you do it patiently while increasing the pressure slightly. All in all, it takes practice. I still haven't got the hang of it yet myself.

I just wished you expanded on your explanations...
coz I am completely lost..
like, explaining how you do your lineart. with tablet or SAI curve tool?
how do you do your shading? airbrush tool? watercolor tool? both? blur tool?
how do you do your gloss an highlights? I can picture how something would look like in real qorld, but I have no idea how to do it in the program/s.
how do you go about coloring the lineart? I am lost the most at this part.
what are the steps for the "after effect"? Simply listing what you do and not telling us how you do it isn't really helping us figure it out..

I am REALLY sorry if I came across as arrogant or rude.. I really don't mean it. I'm just a humble newbie digital artist that wants to improve. I really like how you color and I would very much like to learn this!

Thank you so much for this tutorial! It is greatly appreciated when people of substantial artistic talent take the time to share their methods of drawing as a guide for younger artists. Keep up the good work.

I didn't exactly understand the lineart part where you mentioned changing the colors.
Did you simply make the lines more see-through or actually change the colors?

Nevermind, I understand that now.

Aah... I would love a tutorial of just showing how you do hair. It reminds me of Sayori and I am really curious about the process.

What's different in Sai as apposed to Photoshop? I've noticed a lot of Anime/Manga artists tend to favor Sai more.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Fennikusu In reply to AmbiguityArt [2010-11-05 02:59:46 +0000 UTC]

At first I thought there was no differences between the two. But I find that with SAI, making very crisp, clean lineart is somewhat more effortless, and it also has the fabulous watercolor/marker brushes. It's specifically used for digtal drawing.
Photoshop on the other hand is a great photo editor. Alot of artists use SAI and photoshop interchangably, because photoshop can do things that SAI can't (such as line/color effects, adding patterns/texture to background, clothes, or the overall picture). Though if only using photoshop and not SAI, a more than decent picture is still very possible to make.

AmbiguityArt In reply to Fennikusu [2010-11-05 03:51:20 +0000 UTC]

I actually just got it not too long ago, so I'll probably test it out more thoroughly for the next painting I do. Thanks for the info though .

ReshaErurin [2010-10-16 07:50:09 +0000 UTC]

Just what I needed! Thank you! But can you explain more on lineart coloring? Do you only change its color manually (like giving brown color for skin, blue color for hair, etc) or do you give it overlay effects or some sort? >v<''

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

32-teahousemoons In reply to ReshaErurin [2010-10-17 09:12:06 +0000 UTC]

you can mask the lineart in a way so that when you hit the "preserve transparency" icon in your lineart's layer, you can color it.

[link]
easy!

ReshaErurin In reply to 32-teahousemoons [2010-10-17 09:41:19 +0000 UTC]

Oh, thank you very much!! The way I do it I always separate my lineart layer from the white background, so to color it I'll just create a new layer above it and clip them together so that the layer I color on will only color over the lineart. Do you think these two methods have any differences whatsoever?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

caidychen In reply to ReshaErurin [2010-10-24 15:16:52 +0000 UTC]

If you are using layer property trick, fine. But compared to creating a new layer, directly working on single layer would be easier to manage.

ReshaErurin In reply to caidychen [2010-10-25 17:51:18 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I see. Thankss. I'm not used to working on one layer though I make a lot of mistakes so I have to undo a lot of things >v<'

its a beautiful tutorial but I do wish it was a little more in depth... A lot of the steps seem pretty vague. I'm not trying to be a troll, I'm just always looking for ways to improve my own coloring style and make it beautiful and shiny, kind of like yours.
