ive always wanted to learn how to make my lineart stand out. do you use a specific color when coloring your lineart for skin? i cant seem to find the preserve opacity button, it wont let me draw on the layer i want when i do lock it. what do i do? thank gain for the awsome tutorial.

you try draw something on one layer, and then check the preserve opacity box above the layer section. After that you draw some stuffs again and u will see what happened

Just as a general question that I'm hoping someone can answer: is SAI some kind of computer program that takes lines on another picture and computerizes them or something? or if not, then what is it? If anyone can help, thanks. ^^
Also, this is a nice tutorial showing you work. The final product is wonderful.

No, it's just an ordinary art program that when used well, makes the most crisp lines. SAI's watercolor brush is awesome too.

and u don't need photoshop for filling. the pen tool wastes so much time. use the bucket tool in SAI. it's easy:
1. set the lineart layer to selection source. set bucket tool to selection source too. now you can fill the base colors on a different layer without having to select or anything.
OR
2. set the bucket tool to all layers. make sure you don't have a background color! when you set the bucket to all layers, it fills the active layer as if the whole image is ONE LAYER.

Thanks for your advice ^u^. Your approach is good one. Filling color fast. but may not be accurate enough. u may lose some corner or a small hole that SAI bucket tool cannot capture(Especially when dealing with hair). Then you need to go back and check for any missing area of basecolor.
I am used to using pen tool in PS. That's already my wokring habit =v=.

Awesome tutorial btw, i am kind of happy to know i am not the only one out there who does the filling of colors with pen tool. Most people i meet say its weird and time consuming x.x;;;

Yes, it is time consuming but it is the most accurate approach
