drawing done in sai
editing done in gimp
full body took about 3-4 hours to shade, bust took about 2 hours
i really never know if what i say in these tutorials is helpful or not, so if you have any questions i'm more than happy to answer them ; u ; <3

it helps to use 'clipping group' and 'selection source' when shading - you can see how to use them here my sai brushes + tips
AND A QUICK NOTE: a lot of people think my tutorials try to explain the 'right' way to do art, and then go on to try to correct me

this is how i do my art, and it's fine if you do it another way, just don't try to 'correct' me or anyone else

I saw your work yesterday and I tried doing this magical shading technique but it didn't quite work out. (lil princess ย ) <-- Doesn't look exactly sharp or as good... I wanted to shade like this for years ;^;
What canvas size are you using? What brush setting are you using to erase the cells and draw the lines in? when I use the eraser it just makes it super messy.

the full body was 2246ร4800 px and the bust was 2100ร1700 px
and the brush settings are in the tutorial, you just invert the brush by clicking the little checkered box (shown in the tut)

Thank you!! Ah yeah, the size of the canvas did make a huge difference. I was working around 1000x1000 pixels and less, I'm trying out 5000 right now and wow.
Sorry I skimmed over it and didn't see the brush settings ^^ I'll use them! Thank you very much!

Also may I ask how do you make that 'fading' effect on some parts of the characters? Like that image in the tutorial, the right paws of Oliver and Wrex are lighter than the rest of the body and it give such a great deep effect ;3;

i just pick the colour from the bg and on a layer above everything else draw over the parts of the characters that are furthest away, to give it a foggy kinda effect
