Description
//i'll feature questions asked in the comments so you can easily see if your question has already been asked before! 8DAAAA LOOK I DID IT 8DD
pls ignore any spelling mistakes eue
drawing done in sai
editing done in gimp
full body took about 3-4 hours to shade, bust took about 2 hours
i really never know if what i say in these tutorials is helpful or not, so if you have any questions i'm more than happy to answer them ; u ; <3
finished pictures:
the full res images can be seen here: sta.sh/22d6sinahcqm?edit=1
more tutorials: cakeindafridge.deviantart.com/β¦
it helps to use 'clipping group' and 'selection source' when shading - you can see how to use them here my sai brushes + tips
AND A QUICK NOTE: a lot of people think my tutorials try to explain the 'right' way to do art, and then go on to try to correct me
THERE IS NO RIGHT OR WRONG WAY TO DO ART D8<
this is how i do my art, and it's fine if you do it another way, just don't try to 'correct' me or anyone else
SORRY IF I SOUND LIKE A DICK but it gets annoying after a while 8D

I think I can answer the second question..
Β
On the standard SAI layout, this entire GUI should be in the top left corner.
Checking 'Preserve Opacity' over any layer will cause it to lock. But first, make sure something is in the layer!
You can now colour over it and the colour will replace the previous colour(s) you had for that specific layer. ^v^
I hope this helped!! I'm not that great at explaining things ahah..

never use illustrator for drawing omg
yes the app's title is misleading but its not an art drawing app
its more of a mathematical way of drawing that never works lmao
i recommend using sai if you have windows, or photoshop cs6 for mac
both have illegal downloads somewhere lmao

adobe illustrator is a lot different than sai or photoshop or even firealpaca.
it's very different, i took an adobe class in highschool and it's a pain in the butt to work with for me.
i suggest sticking to firealpaca and saving up for sai, don't jump to a whole new program entirely. ^^

This is a very nice tutorial! Very different from how I do my shading, so it would be really cool to test this out.
Also nice to see a tutorial from another Sai user, cause it tends to always be photoshop x)

Vestica-Karaba [2016-06-28 09:25:33 +0000 UTC]
hey um
I think I found one of the causes for me OR many people's struggle for shading????
So, it would be amazing if you could do a LINE-ARTING tutorial, so that you can explain how you define all the fur areas, or where we should look for that?
Just a suggestion, so it doesn't matter if it gets rejected ;o
π: 0 β©: 1
Cakeindafridge In reply to Vestica-Karaba [2016-06-28 10:46:33 +0000 UTC]
the reason why i haven't done a lining tutorial is because everyone's style differs, and therefore everyone draws fur differently ;;
to improve that all i can suggest is you look at photos to work out the direction of the fur and where it clumps etc.
i might try to touch on it a little bit in another tutorial though! thanks for the suggestion <3
