Description The mighty Necron 'Wraith' Lord,

The feared leader of my Necron legion, this model was converted quite extensively and entirely without the use of Greenstuff. He was inspired by a similar Lord conversion in White Dwarf, and some other awesome Lord conversions found while Googling 'Necron Lord'.

Conversions:-

- Wraith torso has been sawed from the tail and replaced with the large spinal part that connects the destroyer torso to the destroyer platform.
- A Scythe blade was cut from a spare Lord to make a double sided 'War Axe', rather than scythe.
- The end of the War Scythe was replaced with a Staff of Light, though has been removed and replaced with the crystal which is the normal end of the War Scythe.
- Though not a conversion, scarabs were added to his base so that he would blend in with his retinue of the critters.

Cheers, Cal

I like the body of this Necron lord, although I would never thought about converting it as a Wraith. The result looks amazing, good job!

This is really original. I like how you have connected the wraith tail to the body using the destroyer spine. It connects really well.

I'm in the process of combining a destroyer and a necron lord, It's my first major conversion, So I'm hoping it works out somewhere near as good as yours

I'm starting a Necron army soon, excellent idea.

You've blended the Wrath lower hal with the Necron torso wonderfully, nice work...

Necrons really need new units and options, in a new codex. I want to see this unit on it! I love it!

As a fellow necron player I approve of this wholeheartedly. Now I'm gonna have to try and make one of my own to go with my wraith groups.

This is a great conversion that looks awesome. Though the way the spine suddenly goes upright looks a little wierd to me. But it's still a wonderful job.

Good stuff, now to prepare my own similar, eventual conversion. (Am thinking of "shaving" the spinal nubs and replacing with blades, probably from the Dark Eldar sprues.)

Cheers,

An interesting idea, but I'd be wary of the spikes being really easy to just snap off if the model takes some gaming board abuse and during transportation. It may be worth greenstuffing around them really finely just to make them a bit more stable.

Good idea I didn't think of that. (I also have no experience with the greenstuff so i'd need to practice first, but thanks for the suggest i'll take it up)

brilliant painting there mate just needs a bit more blending, oh and i love that conversion, but the 'warsythe' looks a little bit bent to me. but overall thats very good.

Calaith In reply to riandro [2007-08-20 00:56:50 +0000 UTC]

Thanks,

I went over the entire model with black ink since this picture was taken, so the highlights are a lot more blended with the rest of the model. (I didn't own black ink when I took the shot if you're wondering.)

An yeah, the Warscythe was a little bent. In the end I decided it looked a little silly, and the Staff of Light end kept coming off. So now it's half the size and not as bent anymore.

This is really cool. It's easy to see this guy cutting off marine heads all over the place.

Could you tell me the best way to make a clean cut through a metal model? I want to do the same sort of thing, but using a Seraphim and a Wych.

Calaith In reply to trojanwolf [2007-06-24 08:13:20 +0000 UTC]

I had the same problem with metal models, as you can't cut through tough metal with a stanly knife, and even flat sided clippers can leave a mess and not always get all the way through the metal.

For this guy, I cut the Wraith torso off of the tail with a bow-saw. It wasn't a 100% clean cut, but it was easily cleaned up with a stanly knife.

Cheers for the comment,
Cal
