Description
IMPORTANT: Focus on proportion and simplicity, that includes simple 3d Shapes (Spheres, cylinders, Cubes etc.)Practice these methods and I 100% guarantee you drawing will become much easier and you will get better. Drawing is NOT a talent it is a SKILL. Always remember if you have a hard time drawing or painting something it's because you aren't thinking about it simply enough.
I know the drawing sucks but i was only making this for a dude on conceptart.org so i didn't spend much time on it (under 10 minutes for the drawing but the actual writing to a bit of time). Anyway i decided to upload it here because i think it might help a few more people.
If you have any questions at all feel free to ask!
I haven't updated my DA in a while so if you want to see more up to date stuff check out my conceptart.org Sketchbook here:[link]
and sorry for any spelling errors.
Edit: BTW I didn't include a lot of information like straights against curves, rythm, gesture and more about the tension and those are all a major parts of this whole thing. Idk just google it or something... Srsly, google is one of the best tools ever.
Also this isn't the only way to draw... it's a really good way imo (that's why i shared it) but try others and combine all of the aspects you like into a method that best suits you.

Exactly! I know that music is that way through personal experiences, 'cuz people will sometimes ask/tell me things like, "Wow, you're really good! How do you play so well?" like there's some kind of secret to it, but really, all you have to do is keep doing the activity, whether it's drawing, playing an instrument, or whatever, over and over again; it all comes down to hard work... and monitoring your work.
It's also important to make sure that you're doing it right, because if you're making the same mistake over and over again without knowing it, it could be a problem later on. x3 I don't understand why we as people are so afraid sometimes of showing our work to others so they can tell us what they think of it!

Yay! no problem
Awesome, when i was younger i never met anyone with my name and all of my teachers mispronounced it but now it's becoming increasingly popular, which is good for me because people have stopped pronouncing it like "Caleeb" or spelling it "Kaylub" hahaha

Pfft, My mom's German, so we almost *did* end up naming him Kaleb.

yep it's definitely a hard thing to remember. Sometimes things just seem so complicated that it you think drawing in a complicated way is the solution but keeping it simple really is best in my opinion.

Agreed. Artists, especially, need the reminder, I think. We spend so much time thinking about light, colour, composition, balance, etc, that we just sometimes forget that these things'll come to us if we just take a deep breath and calm down for a moment. And that the most complicated way out isn't necessarily the best.

I hope it helps too!
Another thing that helped me with over thinking was gesture. Make sure you DON'T draw the entire head first and then the neck and then the arms and so on. Do a really simple 15 to 30 second gesture drawing, laying out the entire pose but don't worry too much about anatomy, just the pose (that's what i did in the first stage with those really thick lines) and also remember to use only the simple C's S's and straights, of course. After that you can start going in with a thinner brush/pencil and slowly work your way into smaller and smaller details.
Also do studies from pictures and be really observant, that's the best way to get good enough to start drawing accurately from imagination.
Please don't ever get discouraged anyone can learn it! There have been a ton of great artists who were way worse than you at your age
Sorry for writing so much i just get kind of obsessed with helping people. haha.

Great tutorial! Simplifying always makes things much...simpler. And I agree, you can be talented at drawing, but you have to WORK to be skilled!

Thank you! I was just looking at your art because i was looking through my watchers and comment on their art if i think it's good (something i used to do a lot but never do anymore) and i was literally just typing up a note telling you that you're improvement has been great, your most recent post if gorgeous, and you should really keep it up! but since i just typed it out here i guess the note is unnecessary, haha
and yes there are some people who are naturally better than others but skill and practice can quickly make up for that lack of talent. As long as you really want it and are willing to dedicate time and effort to it you can do it.
I'm going to comment on your painting now!

WOW Thank you so much!! This comment really made my day so much brighter! I've been working hard on improving and I'm so happy that it's getting better. It makes me even happier that it's coming from such a great artist! I don't even know what else to say except, thank you!!
