Description
Exploring options for there new corvette designs Kiith Somtaaw engineers tried a lot of options. One such was upscaling the plasma bomb launcher systems on the attack bombers. Creating larger plasma bombs is extremely dangerous and the power requirements scale exponentially so the charge remained the same but with a more powerful reactor and bigger space the reload time was vastly reduced, granting the new Plasma Corvette a serious firepower. Problem is that by the time it could enter service most powers around had made advances in targeting systems thus making most capital ships capable to reliably engage corvette sized craft with there main armament. This would have been the end for this variant but one incident saved it from total cancellation and the design saw limited use.
The Kuun-Laan was conducting some manuvers , exercising fleet coordination after introducing a lot of its newly designed combat craft. A large Turanic Raider fleet attacked the Kuun-Laan and a large battle ensued. Any combat capable ship was ordered to launch and the 4 prototype Plasma Corvettes were sent out as well. The flight leader realized that they are uniquely suited to engage Ion-Array Frigates , which has no point defence systems but its Ion-Cannon does formidable damage if left unchecked. The 4 corvettes pounced on a formation of 5 Ion-Array Frigates and the rapid firing plasma bomb launchers went to work, by the end of the battle they lost count of the number of ships destroyed , they even engaged the large Battle carriers as well once its point defenses have been taken out by other units.
After the battle the Somtaaw leadership decided to put a small number of these corvettes in service , there role is limited and need support on the battlefield but in the right conditions they can be devastating.
As usually based on Norsehounds designs and flying Kiith Somtaaw colors comments are welcome.
