Description

At the beginning , when Kith Somtaaw was struggling to establish mining operations within more dangerous (pirate infested) but much more lucrative areas , needed a solution to defend them. There combat ships where in the design stage at best , having a couple basic interceptors from Hiigaran command , they needed a cheap and fast solution. Most pirate attacks in the regions they were interested in were low tech and lacking any kind of capital ship support , so extensive minefields combined with the natural cover provided by the asteroid field its self was the solution. Lacking military grade explosives and fusion bombs , but having an extensive experience with mining charges (and knowing full well what damage they can do to ships when an accident happens) they designed some basic mines. Later when there own military fleet was taking shape some in the higher ups argued these primitive weapon systems are outdated but the low key "jobs" they were doing were still needed and magnitudes cheaper then combat patrols.

And newly designed mined with shaped charges and fusion bombs and special materials to make them virtually undetectable to enemy vessels , they became a serious weapon system.
