"say cheese!"she's such a tourist teeheehee
soooo, i have pulled my favourites from off of my flickr (calonyr11) and posted them here after someone was caught trying to claim my work as theirs. this seems to be happening more and more frequently. I just might have to start using water marks or something to deter some of this gross moral negligence.
thank you to everyone who supports my work. free time is on the horizon so i hope to have new updates sooooon!

My personal advice to you; Put watermarks on your work - I do the same in most cases - just to prevent that others claim my work and the energy involved (..)
By the way, I have done something with the Eifeltower too, a few months ago. Feel free to take a look.
cheers!

The background is waaaaay too blurry. You should make it a little around 4% which is good.

Thank you for your suggestion, but i am quite satisfied with the contrast between the soft background and crisp foreground

Whoa! Danbo flew all the way to Paris! I wonder if he raced any jumbo jets on the way...
Nice photo! Very good angles.

This could be a lot better of a photograph than what it is in all honesty. Kill the sensor dust in that sky, it is like polka dots all over the place, by either cleaning your sensor or cloning it out inside photoshop using the healing brush tool. Also straighten it, it is cantered left. Do that and it will look a lot better.

thanks for pointing out the dust, its hard to get everything when processing a large batch of photos. I will put it on my to do list, but i won't fret too much
thank you for your constructive response

It is my opinion, and also the opinion of those around me, that this is a terrible picture. The subject, Danbo, is all too common on the dA front page lately. In this photo, as always, he is put in a 'cute' but extremely basic posture. There is no meaning or expression here other then a simple doll next to a famous monument. This brings me to my next criticism: The background of the Eiffel Tower may as well be a stock photo- and perhaps it is- but in either case it's worthless. If someone were touring France and wanted their photo taken next to the Eiffel Tower it would not be nearly as much crap as this shot is. Really there is absolutely nothing substantial, neigh, mediocre about this photo. I find it incredibly disappointing that this is a daily deviation.

That may be so in your opinion , but as the others have said - it doesn't bode well to personally insult the artist and call them out like this on their deviation. They didn't ask for it. Besides we have a duty to be supportive and polite rather than dismissive and rude. If it's not for you, constructive crit or saying nothing at all would be much better.

They always have the option of "Not Requesting Critique." However I will defer further discussion to here .

While I do agree that I don't personally find this piece particularly special, I think resorting to name-calling, like calling it 'crap' and 'worthless' was a touch unnecessary. Perhaps you might get a more positive reaction to your critique if you keep it a bit more professional.

I'm not looking for any kind of reaction, positive or otherwise. I simply posted a critique, while negative, still a critique.

As a rule, I open my work to critiques. Having received my BFA in Graphic Design, it is just what I am used to as a part of my own creative process. I review feedback and use it to better future work. Your comment however did not provide any useful insights or specifics. Your "critique" was not a very good critique (negative or positive being irrelevant). From your post I can only conclude that my photo is:
-terrible (this is subjective and extremely vague, not very useful as feedback)
-too common of a subject matter lately (irrelevant as this work is not recent)
-no meaning or significance (subjective and vague, please elaborate. should it be meaningful or significant? I wasnt trying to make it so, so why should it be?)
-background (getting closer, but you need to elaborate and be concise)
as it happens, there's actually a funny story behind why the background is composed this way and why I chose the depth of field to be so shallow. I usually spend 15-45min per shot using a tripod. However the Paris police would not let me use my tripod for ridiculous anti-terrorist reasons they alleged. I had spent most of the time i had trying to find a good spot that would get the toy and the ENTIRE tower in (not easy at all without being so far away that composition is just too busy and not allowing any depth of field which i love) so instead of giving up, I went to the edge of the garden area (more trees for hiding >.<) and had to set up there. You work with the limitations your given (it was windy, crowded, and the toy is too small for a well composed photo that would make it look like everyone elses travel snapshots. So the police had been tailing me (odd right?) and escorted me away. for taking a silly picture! very funny especially since they didnt think i could speak french and went right on talking to each other about me as if i wasnt there.
Anyways, I invite your response, as long as it remains constructive. As I am not angry about what you have said, you need not defend yourself or take any of what i have said personally. I merely would like to understand your perspective. As yours was not the typical comment, your ideas are therefore more interesting to discuss and explore.
I will check the rest of the discussion on your page, it does appear this did not go the way you intended. hopefully by the time i'm done reading, i'll have figured out more of what you were trying to say. I encourage you to acquaint yourself with the rest of this series, it is better organized and detailed on my Flickr (username: calonyr11)
Thank you for your response, I wish more people would give critiques (negative or positive).
-CA

While my response will pale compared to that, I'd just like to say that I appreciate you spending the time to respond so thoroughly. As I've said to a few others as well, your civility is appreciated when mine was lacking. Also, your point about my criticism being a far cry from constructive is very valid- my apologies there.
I've been meaning to give this some thought and post something equally engaging, but the basic fact is that I haven't been able to come up with anything worth-while. That being said I'd rather not continue this discussion- your explanation was more then satisfactory and I thank you for it.

I think it's just a case of being taken a bit more seriously. The artist may take your critique with a bit more positivity if you don't resort to name calling.

I suppose since it is on the front page so often then it means that people really do enjoy it. DeviantArt is about art, and the enjoyment of art, and it seems that since so many people enjoy this little guy, Danbo, then it has been appropriately awarded a DD. Also, this person did not choose for their art to featured as a DD, and their photograph is not so "terrible" as to award them such searing words. This is not a critique of a photograph, that the foreground maybe this or that the background might be that, but more of a rude little insult to an artist that posted a photograph that people seem to enjoy very much and that you just don't seem to like. I find it incredibly disappointing that you would even post a comment like this.
