Description
Jack is a Quaker parrot owned by my husband's stepfather. He had two or three homes before coming to live with Heinz. He isn't tame, but is vocal and quite a character. Unfortunately Jack was somewhat abused - newspapers and anything long and thin scare him. He has so much intelligence in him! I took a portrait of him, but due to lack of light, it came out grainy. I painted over it in Corel Painter and am quite pleased with the effect. I ended up taking two tries at it - and merging the two versions for a more artistic look.Related content

What a beautiful bird! Its horrible that he's had an abusive past, but now that he has a forever home, I'm sure he'll eventually be able to get past some of his problems!

Yes, me too! He has a nice sunny window to enjoy all day, and lots of attention. I had never seen a Quaker in Alberta until last year at a Petland and now they have a few all the time. I guess they're kind of rare.

Oh, I know how loud they can get! My Quaker doesn't even compare to my Indian Ringneck's screaming when she gets worked up. If I end up being deaf I know who to blame. lol
Best of luck to Jack! As long as he is in a good home I know he will continue to improve and shine. With patience I believe he has the potential at being tamed.

Oh man! I can't imagine anything louder than a Quaker at the moment (and I always thought my budgies were loud!). Hopefully there's a quick way of calming her down when she gets worked up!
Here are two photos of Jack - [link] - I just missed getting a good shot of him eating the nut. He ate it pretty fast!

Haha, Indian Ringnecks can have a very high pitched call. It leaves your ears ringing for a good few minutes afterwards.
Aww, Jack looks like a very happy camper.

Jack is beautiful! The picture turned out great; I really love it.
I am owned by a Quaker so I know the personality that comes with them; they are phenomenal birds, no? Its unbelievable that anyone could abuse such amazing animals.

Thank you! I have some photos I took with the flash that I'll probably post elsewhere. He's a smart bird - I did some clucking and whistles and he listened very intensely! He also lunged at me. He does a dance for nuts.
I don't know how anyone could abuse birds either. He was quite loud when he squawked, and I imagine people are rather unprepared for that. I hope he'll be tame someday. He has a good home now at least.
