Description "I'm a tailor," he told her, when they first met. "A dressmaker, too." He knew it wouldn't catch her attention the way a doctor or a CEO might, but his passion was what got them all interested in the end. When she asked about his work, he played up the sensory aspect - the sight of a newly created outfit; the fresh scent of his fabrics and the sheer artistry involved. He talked, too, about the pleasure he found in spotting the imperfections beneath the outer beauty.

By the time he got to his customary pick-up line, the one he'd stolen from a popular song, she was already pretty taken in. He stole her breath when he asked her to show him the imperfections she hid.

***

He hummed as he manipulated his instruments, scissors making small cuts here and there. The tapestry he was creating would, he knew, be a masterpiece. Like a surgeon, he made precise snips that allowed for a perfect edge.

Everything was just right, and as he pulled her skin away from the muscles below, he sang happily to himself. "Would you let me see beneath your beautiful, tonight?"

Oh yes. Under my naive and innocent little mind is a very dark place indeed.

I have startling amounts of creepy beneath the surface. It's quite a bizarre juxtaposition, to be honest: creepy as hell vs innocent and naive. I am ever a surprise.

I expected the twist since I've been at a horror film spree lately, but this is still well-written and concise. I love it.

Maybe I read Silence of the Lambs too often.... When I read the beginning, I immediately thought of him taking her skin to make a dress. Then I thought I was crazy and it would probably be a love story or something. So I kind of expected that twist, but you still managed to surprise me. Well done!
Besides, I just listened to the song with your story in mind and it was terrifying. Thank you for that.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm even more glad you listened to the song with the story in mind and found it terrifying. It's all I ever think of when the song plays and it makes me laugh so much. (I think I just may be a terrible person.)

No, you're not at all! You just have humour.
I actually watched a video of Harrison Craig performing it, and he stared straight into the camera. I just thought THAT. THAT is the stare of a serial killer.
Then I burst out laughing at "Take it off now, girl, I wanna see inside!"
No, Mister Craig. No. I will not take off my skin so you can see my insides.

That made me cackle.

My boyfriend's just over on the other couch, shaking his head. He does that a lot.
