I've got a few too (in semi precious stones)! As a childΒ I had a turtle at home, she followed me around because I had red slippers and she loved tomato's...Β

Aw, how cute..! I also had a pet turtle when I was younger (or three, actually). They didn't like tomatoes though..

It's a beautiful painting, maybe it could have a highlight in the eye section to make it more alive. ( just a suggestion not a criticism)

That's a good idea.. but a bit tricky since I haven't saved out some white paper for a highlight there from the start. I only ever use white paint over dark in watercolours for my signature. What medium would you use?
Thank you

I would use someΒ white gouache, I know it doesn't make it a pure watercolour but that doesn't bother the general public. ( they are only interested in the final result) You could try it out on a scrap piece of paper and see if that works as it would be a shame to ruin all the work you have already done.
Sometimes I have been able to lift out some colour with a damp "cotton bud" but that could be tricky in such a small area.

I could always do a mockup in Photoshop first. My second concern is the light source. That side of the turtleβs head is partially in shadow, so the diffuse light from the surface would probably not even reach the turtle's eye, what with its eyelid obscuring parts of it, and because of the downward angle of the eye itself. Perhaps I could use artistic licence for that one though, I did brighten up the general colour of the eye to make it less all-over black in appearance.
I do have some white gouache which I sometimes use for my signature, so that would be an option.

photoshop is a good idea,Β Β you will see immediately if you can use some artistic licence, I understand about the light source but you could pretend its reflected light from another source.
White gouache might be too bright, maybe a dulled down colour. Maybe a pastel pencil could do the trick and it could be erased with a kneadable rubber if it doesn't look good.
Is it really worth the effort, (stress), the painting works as it is.Β Just ignore my suggestion, I am a perfectionist too and am always trying to improve my own work.

I like the idea, and can definitely see where you're coming from; that glint in the eye usually makes a whole painting come alive for me. I tried a few different modifications in Photoshop, but couldn't make it look right. I think the painting would need a complete makeover to improve, so I'd rather put it behind me and start on something new. I really appreciate the suggestion though, so thank you.

You've got such great taste, it's still a favourite colour of mine and probably always will be. I actually came across a photo yesterday with those shades - maybe I'll give it a try and see how it goes.
Thank you, Mayumi, your support always means a lot to me.

Mm, travel the world.. I never thought I'd say it, but I'm almost a bit sick of travelling. But give me a couple of months to just chill and I'll be dying for a new adventure. Thanks, Jeff.

Why would you think of such horrible things? You're more than capable of doing beautiful paintings :3

Thank you, that's very kind of you to say. ^^ I just feel like I've deteriorated lately, it's difficult to get back into painting again.
