A shockingly long time. I was very young like maybe 4 or 5 years old when I bought them from Chinatown to save them from becoming soup... they were the size of quarters... something like 8 years later they were just getting too big for the biggest tank we could manage, so we found a turtle sanctuary to release them. Allegedly. I was like 12 so... I don't know a lot of the details. I remember being worried because they're not used to having to find their own food... and the weather was a little cold... I really hope they were okay >..< I didn't want to release them...

Admirable to save them from becoming soup! (The horror. :/ ) I’m sure they soon learnt how to get food, by observing the other turtles at the sanctuary. ^_^ I had mine a similar length of time; that female in the painting for about 10 years. They were originally three, but the youngest male kept terrorising the other two, so I couldn’t keep him for too many years. (Vicious little thing..) But the other two were lovely.

Thank you -- it's nice to imagine they learned how to eat in the wild and made lots of turtle friends aha >..< I do hope so!

This watercolour of your beloved turtle is truly gorgeous! It's even more beautiful for having seen all of its fine details in the flesh, Puttelina truly pops from the paper in a blaze of colour. As always, your artistic ability knows no bounds, sweetheart

You're so sweet, Nige. Thank you! It's always nicer to see paintings in the flesh, don't you think? You have to come visit again soon.

Thank you so much! Your comment made my day.
I felt a bit conscious writing her name here at first - I'm used to it myself, but to someone else's ear it might sound ridiculous. So I'm glad you like it!

TokyoMoonlight In reply to CamillaMalcus [2016-07-31 13:38:52 +0000 UTC]

It's similar to Thumbelina (for me at least).

The pets are our darlings and their names are always precious, even if they are ridiculous (in general or only for some persons

It's the same with a child's name...some may laugh at it, but you as a parent are proud of it. That happened to me...school kids laughed at my name, but my parents were proud at it. And compared to the new names mine is now pretty normal.

That's very true.
Also, thank you for the watch! It's much appreciated.

Really, someone would laugh at Marcela..? But that's a truly beautiful name! Some kids...

TokyoMoonlight In reply to CamillaMalcus [2016-07-31 15:34:08 +0000 UTC]

In my country there are only 100 of us (population male&female ~2 million). So it's very rare...the male version is much more common.

They (kids) were just jealous   But still, it wasn't fun being laughed at

Are you kidding?!...it's me who should thank you for the watch Have a great day!!!

I had to google that quote. I'm still not quite sure of the connection, but I'll take it as a compliment. ..I think.

It was just a funny quote from the Game Grumps the turtle reminded me of. They played a Build-a-Bear game and there was a terrifying turtle plushy they could pick so they made it an evil prophet.
