Description I constantly see people drawing the legs wrong, mostly drawing them like a dogs/cats

So I wanted to make a simple example page for people to look at if they want, equine legs very differently than canine/feline legs

I see a lot of people struggle with the front legs, remember, horses have a KNEE in their front legs. They bend in the direction yours would. They don't have an elbow/straight leg like a canine.

Horses legs are also not noodles, they have certain joints. They also have a bend right before their hoof, no higher besides the knee.

If you have trouble, make sure you look at pictures/videos of real horses! It'll help you understand how they move and stand, so when you draw a pony it won't look off in some way.

But for the love of god, remember their front knee, they front leg don't bend the opposite way!

~FunFact: When a horse/pony runs, one foot is always touching the ground!~

I recently learned from Terryl Whitlatch that the front "knee" of the horse is actually the wrist. The anatomy is analogous to cats and dogs, just spaced differently. They just have the one looooong finger that makes up the fetlock and hoof! I love horses and had no clue until last year

Yup! I just call it a knee since it's easier to understand that way vOv

They essentially walk on their fingernails, hoofed herbivores are bizarre

Oh yeah, I ride and everyone calls it a knee too XD I just never realised about the analogous anatomy before. All their legs are so weird!

Thankyou so much for this ^^  Pony legs despite how simple they are, are surprisingly hard to draw.  I often forget the Elbow joint in the fore-legs, and I always have trouble with the back legs. lol

Yeah, I've had horses all my life so it's a bit easier for me, so I can understand people having trouble lol
