Description If you WITHOUT taking the time to post a comment, do not expect a thank you.
I've been running out of time to go to everyone's profile to thank them, but if you can't take the time to type a short comment, I'm not going to take the same time for you.

" The sun takes a final bow with a spectrum of rich colors, making way for a slender moon to glow. Loneliness consumes the tiny moon, so she calls on Candrence, the Star Kisser.

Playfully, Candrence comes galloping out of thin air, her hooves never actually touching the ground. A herd of her fellow equine sense that Candrence is near and soon find themselves following her.

With Candrence leading the way, she takes them to a secret Eden before she takes off to start her nightly ritual of scattering the dark night sky with her kisses, leaving behind a coating of glittering stars. "

This little story just came to me as I was coloring this piece. I needed something to do during down time at work the past couple of nights, so I brought this picture with me. I wasn't quite done with it when I was finished with work, so I finished up the rest at home.

And I am seriously starting to think that the first horse on the far left is cursed!! lol Even though it was not the first horse I colored and I also tried practicing some color combinations on a scratch piece of paper, I still couldn't seem to get it right (didn't help that the scanner eerily made it worse!!). This is the same horse that didn't turn out right when I started coloring this digitally, lmao. Cursed!

** Update **

As pointed out to me, I have gone back and corrected the color of the shadows cast by the horses, lol. I also added an overall light touch of violet to the grass to give it a better night shade.

lol, just takes practice. Also, I know that I am still a beginner with colored pencils because I've seen some pretty amazing artists that can make a colored pencil drawing that literally looks like a photo, lol.

Thank you, though

*blush* You are very kind! I still love working with colored pencils, but my back is messed up, so I can't bend over a sketchbook and such for very long, which is why I've gone so far into digital, because it let's me look at the monitor instead of down on the table, hehehe. I still long to someday own a Prismacolor set of colored pencils, hehehe

I know how you feel. Though for me it's my neck that starts to hurt after about half and hour of looking down at the paper.

Even so, you do EXTREMELY well with digital art.

Yeah, it's a combo of my back and my neck hurting from doing "traditional" art, hehehe.

*blush* Thank you so much!!! I have learned a lot about how to use Adobe Photoshop and I know that I still haven't even scratched the surface as far as the features it has to offer, lmao.

Lol. I'm sure when you do, you'll work will be even more epic than it is now. Ahhh! The epicness is overwhelming me! xD

You just keep getting better and better!

I have yet to even save up enough money to buy it and a tablet for my Macbook. >.< Sooo, until then I just use Gimp.

*huge blush* I'm so glad that you enjoy my works so much!! I certainly hope I get better, lol. I have always felt that an artist will certainly stop growing once they think that their own art is "perfect" but that no artist is ever "perfect" so we should always strive to be better and learn from each other

So far, I have gotten two tablets, but my first one was a junker and I regret having spent so much on that one, but I am absolutely in love with my new one now, a Wacom Intuos4 Small!! My boyfriend even found it for a little cheaper off Amazon.com for only $199 !! Plus, I even went from having a very, very large tablet, and now down to this small one, BUT, strangely enough, I actually love the smaller size better! It is so much easier to control the pen now and it's so much easier on my hand and wrist Now, for Wacom, the Intuos4 series would be the "middle ground" as far as expensiveness. Now, for beginners or just casual artists, or just broke ones, lmao, there is the Wacom Bamboo series which are easily UNDER $100, like, I think the cheapest is $79, but that's the price on the Wacom website, so I'm sure you can find it even cheaper, either a sale at Best Buy or just search through Amazon, lol.

And, Wacoms all work well with both Windows and Macs,

I know you'll just keep getting better and better. I like that way of thinking, (that once an artist believes they're "perfect" bit).

Yay! Less money I have to save up! xD Thanks for the tablet advice. I think I'd fall under "broke, casual artist."

I'm so glad that I could help!! Like I said, I regretted my first tablet, and I paid for my mistake, But, things are all better for me now, lol. And I certainly also fall into the "broke, casual artist" category, lol Good luck!!

I used my 3" Breyer horses for models to get the idea of what the horse will look like from the front, . It helps that one of the little horses I have is in a running pose, so that helped, lol.

spiritstallion4eva In reply to Candrence [2009-01-23 00:47:33 +0000 UTC]

cool! I usually look for some stock photos, but its kinda a pain Thats a really good idea! I have a wide collection of them too, thank you

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Candrence In reply to spiritstallion4eva [2009-01-23 00:54:57 +0000 UTC]

And here is another little idea...

I don't know if this is the case for others or just me, but I have a really hard time truly understanding what I'm looking at to try and draw it from a 3D model, so what I actually did was took pictures of the horses from the angle I wanted and then used the pictures as my reference. I only have about 3 good horse figurines (most of my other ones don't have details like muscles), so it took a couple different pictures.

Thank you so very much, It was most definitely a personal challenge for me, lol. I was using a tiny Breyer horse that I've got to help me out, lol. I only have 3 Breyers and two of those are only about 3", . I used to have an extensive Grand Champions collection, but my mother moved from one town to another without me being there to pack anything at all, so those all got left behind,

I can imagine models were useful for it!

I collected horses when I was young, they came in all possible breeds! Not sure if they were Breyers, wish I had them still! Cant wait till my little one is old enough for them kind of things my little ponies barbies breyers ill be a little girl again
