It time for Another Dawn of the Dance Pic! this time of Gail

I originally wasn't going to do a Dawn of the Dance solo pic of Gail...however a stream of disgusting, hateful and hurtful comments on the a photo of a fantastic Monster High Cosplayer on the official Facebook left me shocked and appalled. So I wanted to draw my big girl representing for the plus size population! so many people were saying things like "She's too fat to be Frankie!" and only commenting on her weight, never mind that the dress is expertly sewn, that the wig is the right color or that she painted herself green! all anyone paid attention too was her weight. and I'm just sitting here like "really guys, really?" and the kicker is? she’s not even fat! she’s little pudgy yea, but that's normal for a real life walking around girl. it's as if these kids forgot that Monster High is a cartoon... no one looks like those girls in real life, they have tooth picks for limbs and heads the size of pumpkins. but even if she WAS fat? so what?... is she not allowed to dress up as her favorite character because she doesn't have a body society deems ideal? and all these comments were coming from children - who are barely ( if that) even old enough to be on Facebook.

I wish I could say that this was an isolated incident of weight bigotry, that it's JUST the fandom or that it's JUST Facebook...but it's not... this is a form of Fat Phobia fueled by the incorrect notion that it is impossible to be healthy AND fat. or that all fat people just sit around on their couch and eat Potato chips and Twinkies watching Jerry Springer.

Well, I won't stand for it! this unfounded hatred of fat people needs to stop! everyone's body is different and reacts differently to different stimulus. and I'm living proof of that. I have been and always will be a big girl...and you know what I did for a good chunk of my life? Roller Derby...for 3 years I attended a 3 hour practice 4 times a week of very intense psychical activity, I could outrun all my friends, lift up 50 pound bags of dog food like they were pillows and trek up 5 floors of stairs to my classes in college without breaking a sweat. but I still had narrow minded, uneducated idiots telling me I need to get in shape...I when was in shape. I just wasn't thin. and on that same train of thought I knew/know people who are so thin, they can eat and eat and never gain an ounce, or thin people who never eat- but they also never sleep and live on coffee and cigarettes, drinking and partying all night.

the notion that thin = healthy is a farce. and it makes me endlessly sad that fat characters are so rarely represented in the media. it's like they don't exist and it's not JUST the media either...even here on DA plus size characters are few and far between.

Not ONLY can you be Fat and Healthy but you can also be fat, fabulous and beautiful too! and THAT brings me back to my picture! let me get off my soap box and direct your attention back to the art... Since Gail is a sea creature I thought it fitting she have a nautical themed dress. and blue and green just go so nice together!

and Don't Worry about Gail going to the dance alone she has a date

Also I decided to give Gail freckles ~CelebiObsession gave them to her in the lovley gift she did for me. and I thought they looked cute! so they are staying!
