Description Edit:Β 10/17/2014: Added tail spikes. Tweaked a few things, but I think the anatomy/proportions are kinda awful now. Needs a complete makeover eventually.

Edit:
12/19/2012: Officially naming his species "Ruasonid" (pronounced raow-son-id). Let's see who can guess why Also he's still an "arnok" as well, because there's actually two factions of ruasonids: The Arnoks and the Zaeons, who are at war with each other. The color on their backside represents which faction they belong to and every ruasonid is actually born white. Ooooh more backstory for you guys!

Edit: 11/8/2012 Added some more text details and changed the purple color to be a bit warmer hue, slightly darker, and more saturated than before to better match the fabric choice for the costume

And finally- I have Theod's new and improved reference sheet completed! It was due for a much much needed update simply because the last one was diseased with anatomy errors.

This one is specifically done to help me build my newest creature costume project as well as answer a lot of questions people had about things like the inside of his mouth, his back markings, and overall posture/anatomy that wasn't quite clear before. My hope is that you find this useful and clear to understand now.

(Rachis is pronounced like "rake-iss")

Personality traits: active, anxious, adventurous, brave, curious, impatient, impulsive, independent, intelligent, loyal, observant, precise, stubborn, tactful, witty

And he's still totally as smexy as ever

I didn't notice that scale grid, I think I'll try something like that on my next crack at Baragon.

I could not help but notice the grid behind Theod and wondered how you used it.
Did you place the detached foot where it would fall if it was connected to the body?

Great work and closly following this uncovered the tiny details. For example reverse foot mirror and mussel definitions.

What skin texture would this creature have? Scaly, leathery, smooth or other.

CanineHybrid In reply to matt-bulls-stories [2012-07-23 21:01:31 +0000 UTC]

The grid is in fact a representation of a 1' by 1' area, so everything here was done perfectly to scale.

The placement of the detached foot was simply done so because that's where it fit best in the layout but its main purpose is to better show what the killing claw looks like from the opposite side. If he was walking, the feet would be planted a little closer together- but if was at a quicker pace, his stride would be longer and how it is drawn here would be close to where his feet would be positioned. I'll do a walk cycle of him eventually, I did an older one that never made it online but his anatomy changed since then anyways.

His skin texture is scaly, the best example of this can be found here: [link]

Thank you for the comments!

Thanks for responding! Again this is a great reference as I've noticed the faint lines going through the arm a leg where the main body would continue. You probably already know what you would use to get the scaly texture. I would imagine something similar to. [link]

A space style background as been drawn that I think would work with Theod. I've tried drawing him by hand but confess I had to trace certain parts. The neck and feet gave me a hard time.

Hell yeah! Both design and those wicked stilts, I honestly cannot wait to see the wip pics of this. How do you intend to keep his tail sticking outward? I have seen many options, wooden poles, pvc piping, metal wires, ect.

CanineHybrid In reply to Safyras [2012-05-10 21:27:17 +0000 UTC]

I have a few ideas in mind on how to do the tail... it'll primarily be made from a special kind of plastic shaped into disks and jointed together.

Just wondering why the front and back view of the tail looks like a bee sting. Apart from that little thing its great.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CanineHybrid In reply to matt-bulls-stories [2012-05-02 23:29:55 +0000 UTC]

That's because the tail is in perspective. I know it looks funky but that's how it is. If it was moving or you had a 3D view, it would make sense. Actually you can kinda see it in the back view of the 3D model I made of him here: [link]

In this reference sheet, you're simply seeing the top of the tail a little more than the angle you're seeing in the 3D model.

Hope that helps!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

CanineHybrid In reply to Skaros444 [2012-05-02 22:18:39 +0000 UTC]

Nope, it's a real word/thing. I tried calling them quills and combs before but that didn't quite fit. Then I took a look at bird crests since that was the closest thing and found the shaft that supports the feathers is called a rachis. It's also a word for articulated vertebrae.
