I love the way you draw ears D:, I always have so much trouble making them not look flat, this guy looks pretty awesome by the way I'm a big fan of tans and browns on canine characters

Thank you! c: I so enjoy drawing ears. xD And this guy's design has been really fun to work out. Still figuring out the markings but yay tans and browns!

Daww, those ears and the snout are way cute! I love how distinguishable they are.
And man, I know what you mean about making overly detailed character colors. I have to fight myself from adding a huge palette every time I make a new character 8'C More often than not I fail terribly.

Thanks! Ooh I'm glad~ Distinguishable is good
I do it every time |D Most of the time I just simplify enough so that I won't go crazy drawing the character multiple times yet I still enjoy the design, but here I have the possibility of comic artists to consider, haha. I don't want to drive any of those mad if I can help it. xD

Haha, I guess it really all depends on the artists themselves and what they can tolerate xD I am perfectly fine drawing complicated designs over and over and over again (my series comic has more complicated characters than a Sparkledog group) so it doesn't bother me. In fact, I discovered I can memorize complicated designs fairly easily, so it's not a chore. But other artists... maybe not so keen on that 8'D

I love the idea of the back-facing ears. Gives him a lot of character and uniqueness. Also great for wearing a hat.

Hnf, that face, those ears. <3 I love him already. XD I especially love what you did with the grey eye and the ring of brown around it. ^^ Interesting. As well as the colors you used here, even if they'll probably change I know it'll end up something lovely. I'm already loving this concept. XD And what you said about ref sheets, you are telling the truth. OTL I'm almost about to give up on ref sheets and just toss a bunch of unfinished sketches in for them and say, "Y'know what? Here. Take this and interpret it how you like, I'm done with this.". XD

Thank you! C: The eye was accident initially; I had brown eyes on him and wanted to try out pale gray and accidentally left a bit, haha. Then I decided I loved it. |D Haha yes, so much sketching. I'm going to put the better sketches on the ref, I think. I enjoy the sketching so much but I feel a bit slow when so many other people have their refs already. xD What sort of character are you working on? :]

Hehe, I love accidents like that. XD The character I'm working on actually was a complete accident, I was just scribbling and it somehow turned into some sort of mutated camel carnivore thing.. XD I agree, I enjoy sketching. Inking.. Not so much. x_x And like I said, the mutated camel. XD I just have a sketch uploaded right now, actually. I'm going to get around to making it's ref as soon as I can, then maybe I'll enter a character of the species in LaF... I'm honestly kinda scared to try that. XD

Oh I saw that thing It's really cool looking. A lot of the characters seem to be made up species actually, so I could see it fitting in pretty interestingly.

Canis, Canis, comrade, you know we love you dearly, but please, for the love of God, don't make your character five to ten shades of the same color for the sake of "realism." Have sympathy for those of use who aren't gods of art and take eons to color even if there are just two or three. I beg you, no more than three or four fur colors, and make them different enough to actually warrant being different colors.

Haha, you've actually landed on the precise reason (well, one of them) that I'm not using the color scheme you see before you there. Even if he wasn't for an OCT that one would still require a bit more working with. Some of those aren't quite different enough to justify being part of the design, and I'm not satisfied with it. Three to four is around what I'm shooting for once I get it all worked out.

That's alright. xD I actually was quite amused because over-complicating things is a problem I have quite often.

I know that feel about ref sheets; although for me I never even get the sketches done.

I usually end up with a mass of just sketches. |D

Ha ha. I end up with a mass of sketches that are only half done because I decide I hate them and start over. xD
Yes, ears are amazing. Have you ever drawn a Maned Wolf? Holy crap, they've got huuuge ears. I think you would enjoy drawing them, I sure do xD [link] (But then again I'm biased because I loooove these guys.)

I'm still sketching xD I have a feeling a bunch of these are going to end up plastered on my ref in various places, lol.
I actually haven't drawn one of those yet except for pixelling one once. Eventually I want to do a sketch or other picture of one though. They have such neat anatomy~ Ears and legs, two things that are fun to draw

I know, right? I looove drawing them with those exaggerated proportions. They even walk funny xD [link]

Just about to post another actually~
Oh yes I love how they walk. I've actually been fortunate enough to see one or two in captivity at fairly close range several years ago and it was quite awesome. They were temporarily separated for some vet work or something so one was enthusiastically roar-barking, so that was a really interesting experience.

Wow, you are so lucky! They don't roar-bark much and it's a pretty incredible thing to hear xD I've never had the opportunity to see one in person yet, unfortunately. But I go to Houston in a few weeks and I think they have some at that zoo, so I may see them then
