Description I've learned a lot while creating this one. Especially, how to create physically correct car paint shaders and setting up a car visualisation by deliberately placing highlights and reflections.

My intention was to recreate a professional studio setup that is commonly used for car photography. The 2D elements provide an "advertisement"-look here.

The car itself is my own concept roughly based on a Citroen C4 (very roughly ). And a co-worker of mine modeled those neat-o rims. Thanks for that!

Maybe I will upload a cleaner version later. The anti aliasing is not as good as I wanted it to be but it would just render too long (like 40 hours).

I hope you like it and take this in excuse of my creative intermission within the last months

I really like the graphical feel of it, especially how when you take a closer look at it, the car itself actually is dimensional. The other part of that I like aside from the car itself is how the background is completely grey while the car has a slight blue tint. And the red break thinger, that's nice too.

Not sure how much work you were putting into the composition of the whole shot, but I think giving it a bit of breathing space to the upper left would work right well, especially with those radiating lines.

What sort of work went into placing the highlights and reflections?

I placed a white plane right above the car to create the highlight on the windshield and the hood. Further I have created a horizon that fades from white to black (for the velvet-like reflections on the side of the car).

I've got to say that this is obviously awesome!!!

Just one thing that is bugging me...those black (plastic?) borders from windows and windshield..they are sticking out too much...masybe u could do them smaller on thinner

o_O 40 hours? Try hiding some non-visible geometry maybe? Like that interior and the back tail lights even the wheels on the other side that you don't see can improve render time.

Other than that it looks awesome, love the lighting and specular.

No, it's because of the highly complex material structure that I created for the paint. It is layered to several reflection types. Thank you.

The material has the following layers:

1. diffuse
2. blurry reflections (no fresnel)
3. discreet noise for metallic effect
4. sharp reflections (no fresnel)
5. sharp reflections (fresnel)

Fun playing with some elements, clean modeling, rendering and lightning. But the car doesn't seem to fit in the bg. Like it's flying. I would leave the right 2d element, it doesn't fit.

Recently I was rendering some simple shapes in 3dSmax and it took 1.5h to render it ;] sooo... probably if I'd try to do it with such complex model as yours I could start it and probably go on vacation or something
