Description Why create one OC when you can create an entire Space Marine Chapter?  Here's a Tactical Squad Space Marine and his Captain, both members of the proud Lion Knights, a unique Chapter as you'll soon find out.

Name: Knights of Humanity/Lion Knights
Founding: ca. 005.M31 (Beginning of the Horus Heresy)
Non-Codex compliant (not opposed to it but prefer to be more flexible when it comes to tactics and recruitment)
Battle cry: For the Emperor and Humanity!
Recruitment: Any human creature of any gender
Nomadic, Fortress Monastery Battleship Adamant Praetorian
Founding Legions: Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Thousand Sons
Homeworld: Luna/Terra
Tactics and weapons: Jack-of-all-trades
Chapter Commander: Artemis Akhtar
Allies: Ultramarines, Dark Angels, Imperial Fists, Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard and Navy), Space Wolves, Blood Angels, Salamanders (generally most Astartes to varying degrees with some exceptions) Adeptus Genus, Adeptus Custodes.
Neutral: Inquisition (mildly hostile but not openly aggressive and split in it views (the more conservative think them mutants and heretics and the more liberal minded are more friendly (at least as much as an Inquisitor can be), Grey Knights, Sisters of Battle, Aeldari, Tau, Imperial Knights, Adeptus Mechanicus.
Enemies: Chaos (Emperors children and Lions of Chaos especially), Orks, Black Templars (not openly aggressive but will not work with the Lions except under extreme circumstances (feeling is mutual)), Red Scorpions (openly and incredibly hostile) Necrons, Drukhari and Tyranids.

Chapter Origins: Malcador the Sigillite, in a bid to expand on the Emperor of Mankind's work with Gene seed assigned a sect of the Adeptus Genus and three Primarchs, Roubette Guiliman, Lion El Johnson, and Magnus the Red, two pure and one mutated, to combine parts of their gene seed to create a new strand that could bond successfully with any human of any gender, expanding the pool of recruits that could be successfully transformed into Adepus Astartes.  The experiment was conducted far from the front lines on Luna, and was long and exhaustive leading to many failures, but at last near the end of the Emperors reign the gene seed was successfully bonded and tested out on a new legion of Space Marines, drawing from Men and Women, and some Abhumans too, including Squats, Beastmen and Ogryns among others.  Not all recruits survived the process, but the end result saw brave men and women of all human races join the ranks of the Space Marines.  The chapter were thus named the Knights of Humanity, and took up the symbol of the Lion to honour Lion El Johnson, the colour blue to honour Guilliman and red for Magnus.

By the outbreak of the Horus Heresy the new legion had reached 2,000 members and 30,000 non Marine support troops and crew and obtained their own Fortress monastery, the Adamant Praetorian, when the traitor legions launched a surprise attack against the new legion on their way to Holy Terra (the Fortress Monastery being relocated a short warp jump from Terra originally to join up with the rest of the Crusading fleets).  Caught in a pincer movement by Word bearer legion and Emperors children Battleships, the outnumbered Lion Knights fought valiantly and with great ferocity, destroying 4 of the attacking ships with the aid of the Adamant Praetorian, but ultimately the Traitors started closing the gaps with ever more powerful ships, forcing the Lions to retreat before they were overwhelmed.

Continuing to fire even as they retreated the Praetorian attempted to enter the Immaterium and regroup at Terra, unfortunately some Emperors children drop pods had managed to sneak their way onto the ship, leading to an intense firefight near the warp engines.  The fight damaged the guidance systems and the warp drive enough that when the ship entered the Warp, they were blown off course, trapped in the swirling hellscape.

10,000 years later to the rest of the universe but only five minutes for the Lions, the Praetorian emerged from the Warp in a different time from their own.  Their Emperor now a corpse on the Golden throne, the Imperium a much less tolerant place, Chaos splitting the galaxy in half, many new foes to fight and holding the last pieces of the experimental gene seed, the Knights of Humanity now must adapt to a new galaxy and aid the Imperium in its darkest hour, even if part of it does not want that help.

loving the lion emblem on the chest. though the detailing around it makes it look more like dragon than feline. did you take pleasure doing the iconography?
also i see you downplayed the pauldrons a bit; i assume to make the cape stand out more around his neck. looks suave.

I downplayed the pauldrons mostly because I'd like these Space Marines to be able to move their arms up and down.

As an artist and veteran GW gamer from the 2nd Ed days who appreciates the creativity of the hobby, I like the background you have come up with. It ties in nicely with the fluff both old and current. After all two legions are recorded as expunged but never stated why, which left it open for Space Marine players (both loyalist and traitor) to create their own legions. Perhaps your legion might be one of the two whose records were expunged after the Horus Heresy due to the inclusion of Magnus the Red's geneseed in the experiment. Who knows, for only Knights of Humanity and perhaps even the Emperor Himself will ever truly know.

I would love to see this concept you have created on an army of plastic little toy soldiers. XD

And with the new plastic sisters of battle coming out, this colour scheme would also look great on them too.

If you ever plan on converting miniatures, I found that the legs from the plastic Tau stealth suit work great for creating animal-like hind legs for space marines, as not only are they compatible with the regular Space Marine torso but the completed miniature is a head taller than a regular marine.

For your regular marines if you use the Primaris Marines as the base and give them head and weapons swaps then you can easily create true-scale marines. And for the female marines, I recommend slimming down the shin/calf armour of the marine legs and modify the torso to be a little more feminine in appearance. I can photos of the minis I've converted to give you a visual idea if you're interested.

Thank you Akiyama24.  As of yet I don't have any miniatures of 40K, just got into the whole shabang, but I thought I'd give a try in creating a custom chapter anyway, mostly because I thought adding some variety to the Space Marine recruitment pool would not only be necessary for the Imperium to continue its survival, but ultimately make Space Marines more interesting and perhaps get many new players interested in the game.  And anyway, Lore I've found is a useful tool for a story, but not the be all end all that must never change that some people seem to think it is, so if it improves the story why not tweak it here and there?

And yes it was partly because of Magnus the Red's gene seed the records were lost, but also the fact of the Chapters inclusion of many other humanoid creatures other than pure humans that ticked some members of the Inquisition off.  Thankfully there's not enough evidence for the Inquisition to accuse the entire Chapter of Heresy, and their oath of fealty to the Emperor is enough to keep the hostile Imperial factions from openly attacking them.

Also I don't know when I'll be done with it, but I'm planning to draw some Warriors of Chaos next to act as mortal enemies to the Knights of Humanity (basically Chaos wants a piece of this new gene seed to corrupt).

Tweaking the fluff a bit is always fun. I have a tradition of including at least one corrupted battle sister in all my Chaos Mari earmies. (Which currently clocks at six armies.)

Definitely do some Chaotic adversaries. Would love to see your take on corrupted female marines and/or even battle sisters.

If you ever do build an army, I recommend getting second hand minis. It's cheaper than buying them brand new and is a good way of developing modelling skills.

I'm a neophyte to the Warhammer 40k universe but I'm definately enjoying every bit of it as I continue immersing deeper into its vast Lore.

I see your dedication to 40k isn't limited to giving your creations an epic design an name but a very dettailed background as well. Quite awesome.
