What did you use to color that bad boy? I love the background colors, and pose. I as well love the buckles on the belt and the way you made the plastron.
Gorgeous colors.

Wow! I fell in love with your Donatello wallpaper pic (the daily deviation one), this one is a new fave for me.
Do you have any tips or info on how you color like this? Do you use Photoshop CS3 or Corel Painter? Do you use a tablet too?
I'm a freehand in ink traditional type artist though I have done digital colored art, I just can't figure out how the pros such as you do all that digital coloring effects, etc. Any help is appreciated, thank you

Well thank you girl. There are more than plenty of tips I could advice you, still it's best if you ask me according to the project or style you want to acomplish. The basics are creating a set of customitized brushes in PS. For textures and fx. They will make your life so easy, next would be learning to do mapping then again in PS and several hours of practing with all of these elements becomes fundamental to really get the hang of it.
Tons of luck!

I would like help/walkthrough on how to color in a traditional picture with Photoshop CS3 and/or Corel Painter X (of the Turtles- Donatello in a lake holding his staff up to be pulled out, this picture is done, but I want to add realistic water effects and ripples where he's swimming).
I want it to look as realistic as possible (with correct shadowing and the water looking real, shining correctly to the moonlight as it'll be nighttime).
I have tons of PS CS3 brushes, some gradients, but not sure where to find the right textures (I don't have any other than the ones with PS CS3). I'm totally clueless on mapping as well.
Do you think you can help on how I should proceed to color such as the picture I described above or do you need to see it first to use it as the walkthrough?
If you can help me, I'll never forget it and sing praises of you as well (as I do to all who are kind enough to lend out help like this). ^_^

DO you know the basics of scanning and adjusting leves of contrast for a black & white drawing? how about doing the flats, to color?

alaer In reply to CapMoreno [2009-08-25 16:50:17 +0000 UTC]
Yes, I do know how to scan in B/W art (I do it at 150 dpi or 200 dpi, should I do it at a higher dpi?) and I know how to adjust the levels of contrast.
I'm unsure what you mean by flats to color though. Can you clarify?
I got all these nice actions for Photoshop (especially ones for text), but I don't know how to use them. Do you know how to work actions into text and whatnot? I need help here and your walkthrough how you color your pics
I want to learn

Aignatius In reply to CapMoreno [2008-04-25 05:22:31 +0000 UTC]
It's a challenge to get the shell right so it looks physically feasable, for sure. Even the pros at times make the TMNTs' shells look too high domed and tortoise-like.
Plaster, did you mean plastron? The back is called the carapace. Not to be a know-all, or anything...

Thanks for fill in with the details amigo. To be completely honest , just like you mentioned, some times I prffer to throw accuracy out the border and go for amore stylistic approach, simply because it's more fun and way easier to do.

That's true, it's the nice thing about art, something that photography can only dream of doing. Making the subject stylized, and making it a point of departure into another sort of reality.

CapMoreno In reply to Aignatius [2008-04-27 23:08:09 +0000 UTC]
Absolutely. Still I do believe you have a point. I mean we can't stylized everything. There's got be a reference so we all know what we are looking at, you don't have to make things exactly the way god made them, you just have to simulate them.

True, that. Hard to put into words, but I figure, if it looks right, then... it's right.
Especially if you have a client and they think it looks right, and then, you can get paid.
