Cappitron’s Short Circuited Rant
====================
One good think about living in California is that it’s one of Hasbro’s test state. What’re they testing? Dunno, but that means that most Transformer toys are released here weeks before other states see them. As such, I picked up some of the Transformers Universe line (originally the Classics line). I picked up Prowl, Sunstreaker, Tankor, and those midgetized Legends of Miniscream and Smallalert. I tells ya, it’s a good time to be a transfan.

Personally, my favorite so far is Tankor the triple changer; his plane form looks like a plane and his tanker truck form looks like a tanker truck. This triple troubler is definitely better than Astrotrain’s space shuttle form/dried out white turd form.

If you haven’t been buying these toys lately, the movie Transformer toys introduced this automorph technology, which means that other parts of the toy would move in conjunction when you moved certain pieces. Most of the movie toys were like Frankenstein experiments that usually ended with the automorph locking up and you causing pieces to shoot across the room when you applied too much force.

Hasbro designers are perfecting their art though, and so far Sunstreaker has the most awesome automorph function yet. Once you’ve transformed this headless wonder, the instructions tell you to take his chest plate and move it clockwise. Like a metallic marmot on Groundhog Day, Sunstreaker slowly blesses the day with his visage. But wait! His ‘ears’ fold out separately until the head meets its destination.

I fiddled with the gimmick five times in a row.

The Lowdown On The Download

Let me start things off a little differently by talking about the art. One of our art buddies critiqued my Transformers and called my designs “boxy”. Hey, that’s cool, I can take a critique. No really, I can. I’m just concerned…CUZ IT’LL BE HARD TO HEAR YOUR COMMENTS WHEN YOU’RE BURNING IN HELL!!!

So I wanted to flex some artistic muscle to show I can put effort when I wanna. Can you tell the Autobots are at an angle? I wanted to create a POV or Point Of Victimization: you’re seeing the last moments thru the eyes of someone who made a serious mistake. If we’ve learned anything from Snow White it should be that you don’t detract from narcissists, those people will kill you. I’m pretty happy with the result, this is definitely my best technical Transformer fanart…but upon reflection, most G1 characters WERE boxes.
IRONY IS THE SALT RUBBED INTO THOSE FOURTH DEGREE BURNS!!!!

Sunstreaker was the most attractive G1 Autobot. Or at least he liked to think so; he’s a textbook example of “all about the attitude” because he convinced a generation of kids he was sleek despite having windsails for ears. He was one half of the Lamborghini Twins, his brother was Sideswipe. My favorite thing about this picture is Sideswipe’s “And I was just getting to like you” look for the soon-to-be-departed in the second panel.

Okay, okay, fine. My favorite panel is Sunstreaker’s crazy murder-face.

Another day, another tree murdered for the sake of drawing metallic beings.
